I even fail to find the PNS. Where is that one?
You mean one have to go to PPM and isntall it first?
I looked and looked and could not find it.
SNS was there and the old Network manager too but no SNS.

Do you also use an external LCD screen? Or does this happen even on internal screens? Do you have Intel graphics? What could be the shared specifications that create this phenomena? Obviously the Devs don't have this problem or them would tell it as a known thing or them would do something about it.
It usually goes away if one change to openbox or E17 or LXDE or something other than the JWM.

Try Menu > Network > pns-tool connect from commandline
Don't let it scare you, it's very easy . Even works on my eee pc where sns fails every time. (my eee is wireless).
If yours is connected automatically at boot then there isn't a need to try pns-tool, but sure, if you want you can, unplug your connection first.
As for your screen issue, sure it is a jwm problem. Openbox is easily found in Puppy Package Manager.

The fact your printer isn't working is troublesome. I will investigate. I am in the process of compiling gutenprint-5.2.7, may help, I don't know.

Rob (tasmod)
Please do upload your fprot/xfprot compiles, I'll see if I can sort the icon issue.

Dave.. what happened? forgot to flip the switch?

There is already an extra app to get flashplayer in the internet menu if you decline at the first opportunity.
Keep testin' folks

usual frugal pfix=ram install with spup broadcom pet. tried pns-tool then got doubles on my 2wire789 wifi connection. see pics below and report from pns-tool and sns report.
unable to connect using sns, connection wizard, nor with frisbee
rebooted to several diff distros with all showing the same situation with doubles of 2wire789 and unable to make connection regardless of tool used.

So,
I've been grumping over console fonts not being correctly displayed in some modern pups; Swedish letters åäöÅÄÖ are not shown correctly in a terminal (as in another tty, or after exit-to-prompt - in terminal emulators they're correct).
I boot with "pkeys=se" on the kernel line, which gives proper character rendering in X, but in slacko (and other modern pups, such as the lu[ci|pu]s), in a terminal (not a terminal emulator) I see
"sigma, SIGMA, ÷, à, ä, û"
instead of "åäöÅÄÖ" - only a half right there, small ä instead of capital Ä, at least the correct letter.
In wary (tested up until 5.1.3) these letters are represented correctly in a terminal.
In slacko these letters are correctly displayed in a terminal if booted with pfix=nox, and only then ....
I just discovered that in slacko, in another tty (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F3) if I run Code: | zcat /lib/consolefonts/lat1-12.psfu.gz | the Swedish letters are displayed as they should, though the font-size diminishes from small to very small.
Somehow there is a connection with these mis-represented characters in the console and the very small-sized screen of e.g xorgwizard; is this caused by some fb-driver .....?
Reason for not settling with C/US/ASCII-7 fonts in the teminal is that I sometimes need to use these letters when working at the terminal. Besides, links has re-newed this need immensely (though, wary doesn't display se-characters correctly in links, either)
Just rambling in seek of an answer ........
Apart from the above console font rant:
Everything I've tried in slacko-b3 thus far, worked, even abiword behaved better, no mini-patches of white writing area in a big gray any longer .....
My test flash-video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnBlst3T7bY) is slightly stuttering, although watchable .........
Another nice release / MHHP

Tried your previous Chromium - very nice
We are now heading towards the last few weeks of Slacko before release.
We need a logo, all previous were for 'Spot'
- name is Slacko, Puppy Slacko 5.3, License to GNU
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/ArtSpot
Many thanks to Mick, Barry and our team of intrepid testers, compilers and well wishers
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Puppy53Developers
Do we have jobs for these guys, kindly offering their help early on?
Jay (puppyLuvr) - Compiling something ... A cute GUI ... backgrounds and icons...themes
Iguleder - SFS, E17, fonts, compiling
Ttuuxxx I would be willing to support this release ... should be almost 100% compatible and about 10% smaller
Nooby, dejan555, Tasgarth, withoutpity, wuwei, Stripe, James C, aarf, rcrsn51, dawnsboy, peebee, bigpup, 8-bit, Jim1911 - testing
sc0ttman - a few GUIs, make a few PETs, testing, etc...
Ian Milgrew - I would love to support Puppy 5.3 so just let me know how I can help and I'll do the best that I can.
Scsijon - You can add me in somewhere, testing, those few apps I 'package', a spare site to host the alphas/betas to spread the load, anything else I can do.
Playdayz - I have already helped Mick by making a slackware pet for the ATI Catalyst driver, and I will help in the process as a tester.
TubeGuy - Logo idea, need feedback!
If Icyos is about maybe a tutorial on using the new Pns-tool Wi-fi support (whatever that is)?
I am using FF 6 to post this. I rather like Stumbleupon and Nosquint which are not yet available for Seamonkey 2.4.
No real problem to add a browser. Setup all OK. Hope to see PSIP 32bit in Slacko soon . . .
Tried to get Smokey interested in a help manual (like in Lucid)
. . . lot of work
Day to day usage is our best way of improving.
I am finding it very stable. Mplayer is working well for me.
Gonna download the devx (makes me sound like a coder )
and setup my ATI driver . . .
Thanks guys

Subject description: Printer Problem on another computer |
|
Hi Mick,
Manual frugal installation on an NTFS partition. Everything appears to be working fine (including the wireless internet connection) except for the printer. It is a HP Officejet 6500 Wireless and it is not recognized by Slacko. Installed hpijs_print-3.11.3.pet and hplipd_scan-3.11.3.pet as reported for my main computer which also had a problem. Sys-info report is attached.
I have no idea why text isn't wrapped. It is on my monitor. Posting using Firefox 7.0 using a wireless connection.
Regards,
Jim

Didn't that printer work ok in earlier slacko? I'm thinking it's a usb issue.. Barry changed heaps of libs with his "no xcb" compile fest and I almost bet that's what has broken it.. every woof there is certainly something that gets broke in Slacko
FWIW, my canon-mp490 installed ok and prints from abiword. There is a bug with abiword, again from woof, .odt isn't working though the plugin is there

When pasting a long line please use the code tags for formatting, the forum doesn't handle it well, as everyone can see.
I am not sure if that firmware would work for you, as this kernel is 2.6.37.6, too early. Nothing changed with Frisbee or the driver, so again I'll blame the libs, I'll revert all the libs to B2 versions and bring out B4 soon.
