Classic Pup 2.14x has WakePup2 v0.2 built-in.
It requires FAT / FAT32 partition and frugal installation.
It took a while for me to figure this out (see attached).
Download and extract the tar.gz.
Go to /lib/wakepup2.img.
Delete and replace file with the new one.
Menu will now have fsck, plus other boot parameters.
Anyone with Classic Pup 2.14x can add this, or ttuuxxx can make the change permanent for future builds.

I found an error that causes Firefox to lockup with media, Its fixed in the next release due out shortly. If your using top8 then go to www.2ue.com.au and click on any of the links and you'll see it crash, it was the gxineplugin.

Here's a neat programing language that I have no time what so ever to learn and won't be a part of 2.14X, But I figured maybe someone was bored and might want to play around with it, its called GNU Smalltalk, Its faster than python they say.
here's a quote"The Smalltalk programming language is an object oriented programming language. This means, for one thing, that when programming you are thinking of not only the data that an object contains, but also of the operations available on that object. The object's data representation capabilities and the operations available on the object are “inseparable”; the set of things that you can do with an object is defined precisely by the set of operations, which Smalltalk calls methods, that are available for that object: each object belongs to a class (a datatype and the set of functions that operate on it) or, better, it is an instance of that class. You cannot even examine the contents of an object from the outside—to an outsider, the object is a black box that has some state and some operations available, but that's all you know: when you want to perform an operation on an object, you can only send it a message, and the object picks up the method that corresponds to that message. "
The User Guide is located at http://www.gnu.org/software/smalltalk/manual/gst.html
and the homepage ishttp://smalltalk.gnu.org/
have fun

If you want the latest gtkhash which we don't use in 2.14X, when changed a long time ago to Ghasher the pet can be downloaded at http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=46253
I hacked the sources so that it now can be expanded.

which opera package did you try, I really didn't change anything that should effect Opera between Top8 and Top9.
DO you have a link for the opera package you used?
Thanks

Hello !
Downloaded, and running it now, seems snappier than ever .
Haven't done any exhaustive testing yet, but what I tried, just worked - as I've come to expect of a 214X release .
Weren't really meaning to push anything by asking for a new release a week or some ago - just felt that I should update my main 214X installation (which has been RC5 for some considerable time, - been testing out all of the top-series, of course, but just never got 'round to migrating).
Anyway, I'm fully confident that I can migrate my production 214X to top9 successfully (will take a day or so, all programs and scripts considered).
Ta, for this new release .
| clarf wrote: | | Talking about kernel upgrade, MHHP how is the patch recognition process from 2.6.18.1 to 2.6.18.8 going? any news about it?. | Yes, right ... started out with counter-engineering the patches, as I couldn't get them, as originally applied, from the main man, and I didn't want to risk loosing any already present HW-support - and then life interfered, and some things were put on a back-burner ... - stalled ...
Cheers /MHHP

thanks and looking forward to more kernel advancements, I would like to see the kernel patched with squashfs4.2 then I could make a experimental release with it.
The reason is that wary with 2.6.39 kernel and drake puppy both use this, I tried to expand the drake sfs and it wouldn't work with my convertor its the first time in puppy 5 that it didn't work, then I read
LZO compression support requires 2.6.36 or newer kernels.
XZ compression support requires 2.6.38 or newer kernels.
so then I found the wary squashfs-tools42-4.2-gzip-xz-w5.pet package and updated the SfS-converter. but it would be nice to see how small 2.14x would be with the newer sfs compression.
update below for the converter.
thanks

Firefox crashes |
|
Hi Ttuuxxx, haven't really been keeping up on Classic Pup due to wireless compatability issues. But, did do a quick test this afternoon. Using Firefox, went to http://www.insideline.com and experienced crash of Classic Pup while running in livemode. Tried going to same site after startx and it duplicates problem. Thanks, Rob
P.S. Thanks for including IX Quick. I've been using it for a while on my work computer, which runs Windows XP. If you are running Windows, using Comodo Dragon browser with IX Quick is probably the best combo.
