I'm writing this in Puppy 2.0, with XFCE4, and it's beautiful! I've been running xfce, even on my higher-end gentoo box, for ages.
It really went pretty easy getting XFCE4 to run, once I had a little time to put it together. Here's what I did:
1. Install the xfce-4.2.3.2-full.pup as described in http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.p ... xfce+xfce4 . Be sure to make the edit to xinitrc. (Thanks Dougal!)
2. I symlinked the icons as described by MU here ( http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.p ... xfce+xfce4 ). This might not be required as I started with a different xfce package, before this one was released. I'm thinking it's still necessary.
3. This gives you menus for 1.0.9, so I used the JWM to XFCE menu script to update the menus. I know other menus are prettier, with nested groups, etc., but this works quickly and effectively. Thanks again to MU!

EDIT: See option below for a pre-built menu file, as created by the above script. I think it's pretty correct for Puppy2, minus the extra menus I believe were inserted by the jwm2xfce2 script. Note that if you install software, they won't get added to the menu automatically, so you might want the above script anyway.
4. Interestingly, the menu on the panel works, but not the menu you get when right-clicking on the desktop. It turns out the the panel menu is at /usr/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce4puppymenu.xml where MU directed, but the "desktop menu" is at ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml so I symlinked them together, with
ln -s /usr/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce4puppymenu.xml /root/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml
Now you get the correct menu, as generated in step 3, when you right-click the desktop!
EDIT (forgot stop 5!):
5. Exit JWM to the prompt, then restart X with "xwin xfce "
Voila! XFCE4 on Puppy!
(Let me know if I've mis-typed something.)

I was thinking of recompiling XFCE with Puppy2, but decided to wait for XFCE 4.4. Be prepared for it when it is released...
Can you gzip a Puppy2 menu for xfce and post it here? It might save others some work...

What's the ugliest part of your body?

See attached for a menu file that I THINK covers a fresh Puppy2 install. (Not sure, as I've added a couple of things.)
Put it in /usr/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop.
I'm getting the following message:

Sorry this took so long. Forum was evidently down last weekend, and I had a busy week, as usual. Here we go. This should work.jim232777 wrote:See attached for a menu file that I THINK covers a fresh Puppy2 install. (Not sure, as I've added a couple of things.)
