Puppy 5.2.8 on a flash drive

Hi, I used Unetbootin to put puppy 5.2.5 on a 2 gig usb drive and have been using a save file on 1 gig of it. My question is: using the same process but with puppy 5.2.8 would an 8 gig flash drive give me much more save file space, or is there a limit to how big the save file can be on a usb flash? Second question, would a large save file on a flash stick be incredibly slow to save and load?

If you are saving that much stuff, you should consider saving it to /mnt/home outside of your save file.

Thanks John! Reading the info it looks a bit beyond my current linux abilities, I will get there but I'm not there yet. What do you think is a reasonable limit to using a flash drive as I'm doing now? Will it reasonably handle 2 gig of storage say from a 4 gig flash drive?

Since Puppy only takes up about 100MB, there is lots of space on the flash drive for a big save file. But only you can decide how well it works.

Thanks! I downloaded and installed 528 onto a 4 gig flash drive and it limits maximum storage to only around 1250 mb save file so it doesn't do much good to use anything other than a 2 gig flash. It would be nice if it allowed more storage.
Puppy 528 is nice. I installed the xfce desktop which is also nice.

When you install Puppy to a flash drive and reboot. You are given several options for the save file.
One option is to use the entire flash drive for the save file.
It will use all free space on flash drive to save to.
If you have already made a save file.
You can adjust size of save file by using program
menu->utility-> Resize Personal storage file.

Using "Bootflash" in the menu; when rebooting it gives the
option of "all available space" on the drive for the save file.

Save files can also be increased in size after each boot.
(menu > utility > resize)

Thanks! I tried bootflash before and it couldn't find the cd, so I just used Unetbootin (in XP, not very good in Linux). I would like to know how I increase save flie size.

It should be there someplace.
If you can not find it.
Start the console
Type resizepfile.sh
hit enter key

You can run this program how ever many times you need to. It only adds space to save file on reboot.

Do you have more than one CD/DVD drive?
If so you need to run menu->setup->CD/DVD drive Wizard.
Set drive sr0 as the CD drive.
If the Puppy disc is in sr0 drive Bootflash looks for the drive that is identified as default CD drive.
With two drives the sr1 drive usually gets set as CD default until you change it with the CD/DVD Wizard.
Bootflash is just looking in the wrong place for Puppy CD.
