Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 - Updated ISO Version 005 - APR 05 2012
Playdayz,
The instant update 001 sure is an update.
I would say more like Lucid Puppy 5.2.8.1 now.
That new Puppy cloud sure adds a lot of game choices.
Now take a rest so your head stays screwed on straight.
Thanks very much for keeping active with improving Lucid Puppy!!!

rerwin did the hard stuff Cloud Puppy is nice isn't it? Also radky's PupSysinfo in PupControl should be very useful to people in investigating under the hood. The instant update 001 sure is an update.

Ah, That's a good point--I wasn't thinking specifically of games--more of providing a Puppy entre to the world of cloud computing,, but you can never have too many games Hooray for sszindian!
Nothing but good things to say about the support rerwin has given to Lucid Puppy.
That under the hood magic he does is awesome!!!!!
I picture him as that guy that sits in a room surrounded by computer monitors and keyboards, with a pile of Hot Pockets and a big microwave.
You walk into the room and there is a smokey glow around him.
You just know he has the answer to the problem you didn't even know you had.

I see, ASRI éducation. Thanks. This seems somewhat familiar. I think it expects certain gnome icons to be present, but I can't remember where (or which ones). Perhaps someone has a better memory than I do. I will try to track them down.Gnome-mplayer: missing two icons (see screenshot).
OK, I am closing in. They are in gnome-icon-theme, so I should be able to find them. Whew, there sure are a lot of icons.

1. Still cannot get sound to work in Youtube.
Here's what I did:
2. Updated Lupu-526 [in which the sound works at Youtube] to Lupu-528.
This is my 2nd attempt.
Yet again, no sound in Youtube videos, so...
3. Installed the update-001 using the PET file, and rebooted.
4. Ran Getflash, and updated from Flashplayer-10.3-183.5-Lucid->[which I'd already updated to, having 1st uninstalled libflashplayer & flashplayer] to the latest.

Sylvander, Can you download this and test whether the the mp4 and swf files have sound? Just unpack click to test each file. It's 13MB. Thanks.
I should ask, is it only youtube videos that have no sound?
Anyone else? What could we be overlooking?
Also, Sylvander, have you tried with a fresh install of 5.2.8? Or booting the Live Cd with pfix=ram?

ThinkPad t42
A few months ago I reported that I could not get 5.2.5 working on my early-model ThinkPad T42. (I got the 'kernel panic' error - never could fix it, though I had no problems on my other PCs.) Anyway - I'm here to say that 5.2.8 worked first time, and it's great. Fast, and pretty, even on this 'old iron' laptop. Thank you very much.
Awesome job, guys!! My USB sound works great!! It also looks like some of my radio streaming pages that normally wait five seconds before even buffering, now start buffering instantly when the page is loaded. I'm using Chrome 13 BTW. It's too bad my DJ software and Hasp through Wine don't work or I would be out of Windows.
1. "Sylvander, Can you download this and test whether the the mp4 and swf files have sound?"
(a) The swf file shows [in Xfe] as a document file type, so naturally it doesn't play in either gnome-mplayer or mplayer.
(b) The wheelie.mp4 file plays in both of the above players, but with NO SOUND.
(c) All of the other video files play in gnome-mplayer, but with NO SOUND.
2. "is it only youtube videos that have no sound?"
(a) Apparently not; cannot get sound when attempting to play a commercial audio CD using either Pmusic or pCD.
See screenshot below got when using Pmusic.
3. "have you tried with a fresh install of 5.2.8? Or booting the Live Cd with pfix=ram?"
(a) Will try pfix=ram ASAP [in the morning?], and get back.

Sylvander, Since it is not working anyway, you might try alsawizard and/or Multiple Sound card Wizard before you try pfix=ram.
Menu -> Setup -> ALSA Sound Wizard
Menu -> Setup -> Multiple Sound Card Wizard
I think Multiple Sound card Wizard might be worth a try even if you have only one card--I am not sure though.

OK...
1. Booted using puppy pfix=ram...
2. Found that sound was working everywhere:
Youtube, audio CD, your video test files.
3. Came to this thread, and saw your post.
Will now do as you suggest, and see what results.
4. Would be nice to get Lupu-528 working WITH all my additions and configurations.
Puppy is GREAT!
And Lupu is particularly good.
Takes something to get me away from Boxpup.
Spoiled for choice in Puppy.

I'm back:
5. Used ALSA sound wizard, and sound is now functioning in Lupu-528+lupusave in Youtube, audio CD, and your video test files.
GREAT result!
[I'll now go save the session (changes)]
I can continue to use Lupu-528 with all my previous additions and configurations!
Don't understand why that was necessary?

That is good news Sylvander. Thanks for staying with it. As to why it was necessary, well, updating is much more complicated than a fresh install--and in 5.2.8 we changed to the latest ALSA 1.0.24-2, so that made it even rougher for sound.
Playdayz,
Test instant update 001
Pburn just got updated to V3.3.6
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 534#560534
Seems zigbert is trying to improve video DVD copy/shrink abilities.
This version does have some bug fixes.
May have more improvements to video DVD's handling in near future.
