Marco07. have you launched it in console to see error messages. Also /tmp/xerrs.log could show what went wrong.

Hi pemasu:
The attached is a text file listing the result of lunching Umplayer from console. I also looked at /temp/xerrs.log and noted some error messages. But it is beyond me to resolve them. Perhaps you could help. I will attach the log file under a separate post.
Thanks!

Subject description: big thanks

I would like to give a big thanks, as this looks very much like a Pup I might go with as a regular workhorse.

> lots of great apps included in the .iso and stitched together well-- 200M being IMO a more sensible ballpark than the old 100M range of the original Puppy.. (yet not near the bloatware which LHP becomes when you use KDE4..)

> lots of cool .sfs choices all neatly arranged on your site.. and Qt.. have always seen this as the way to go, and am just now getting more into it.

I would also just mention, that it seems a shame such sensible distro's as this and TazoC's Lighthouse aren't among those that feature on distrowatch or distro.ibiblio .. yet the latest ones that are there have IMHO required much tedium as far as getting it into the shape which I desire..

That said, THANKS to all developers and bug hunters.. would that we could coalesce into fewer (i suppose a single One is wishful thinking) various puppies, so as to become all the more appealing to the masses.

ps. pretty regular releases (I often dont get time to try one out before the next is uploaded!) .. any chance of doing .xdelta files?
Also, thanks for the acpi work.. should do well on my commonplace-name laptop (able to suspend!) right OotB unlike lupu-528 etc..

Keep up the good work.

Marco07. Umplayer produces a lot information when launched. It is normal. About xerrs.log. There seem to be one missing lib and couple of missing commands. It is possible that delayedrun I use should be updated. I dont remember if I use my hacked version in Polarpup or not. Probably I do. Barry has updated it and my used probably asks after commands which are not there anymore. Nothing serious I think. Xerrs.log is the place where most scripts sends information. To debug it and find something useful is sometimes te dious. The meaning is not to get xerrs.log clean but find something to be fixed.

Anyway. I dont see anything special concerning your bugs. I will test Polarpup myself soon. After I have upgraded Exprimo.

About missing bad and ugly. I should have included them. My used gstreamer package is same with many libs included.

But to see if I should include something, I need to play with Polarpup. Anyway, I dont know atm howto help you.

Yes! this should definitely be included to make gstreamer inclusion complete and perfect. This is a great idea. Please do such. These plugins are necessary for either Libre Office Or Open Office Impress to have a functional audio play back. And I am certain they have a role and use in other multimedia softwares as well.

Polar pup is your baby and of course for it to be bug free you need to play and test it prior to release. Of course we as end users try to assist in testing by each running those sofwares which we regularly use on daily basis and report back any bug we come across. But you have always been great and responsive. And I can still live with Polar puppy 004 as it is.
Thanks!

This output from puppy 525

Is there a way to make a .pet from the WORKING driver (module) in 525 and use it in Polar Pup 004 or any other way to fix it ?

Eztuxer. No there isnt. Kernel module drivers are kernel and often even kernel compile spesific. Only missing firmware can be taken from working distro.

Eztuxer. Yep. Your ralink usb wifi specs seems to be interesting. Depending on situation, rt2870sta or rt3370sta should work. Tempestuous also has uploaded patched versions for extended support (2.6.33.2 kernel Lucid Puppies). Also the source needs to be configured to support wpa connections.
I am afraid, only way to test is that I should compile both above versions, with wpa support enabled.
Then you test if they work, and if not, then you really need Tempestuous`s help.
I dont even know how to patch support if there isnt natively.

It's not such a big problem, I can live wit Kernel 2.6.33.2 and puppy 525 until a newer Kernel that works shows up.
I'll just need to add the soft I like in polar pup to 525 make a list of them and find the.pets.
It's been this way before, some Kernel work fine for this card, and some don't.
Thanks for all the help so far, I think Tempestuous has more important stuuf to work on, by the time we manage to fix this chances are newer kernels will be out, and it would make all the hassle useless, as one kernel chases the older...

I am atm uploading Polarpup-005. It is mostly gtkdialog necessitated update. I have used same woof, small fixes like acpi scripts, Znotes replaces xpad, Pupcontrol updated. Pcdripped included. Nothing fancy but now Polarpup should be compliant with new gtkdialog regarding several applications.

I will make proper announcement tomorrow.....

PostPosted: Sat 03 Sep 2011, 10:04    Post subject: Extralang v.0.2 prompts for 'lang_pack_en' under Polarpup

This is my first post to the forum.

I have been using Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 for the last few months and have had no problems. I am very happy with it. Very Happy

I was going to try one of the later versions when I came across Polarpup because you state that it is optimized for the Atom cpus.

I am using a Lenovo S10e netbook which uses the n270 cpu. I downloaded Polarpup 003 and installed it onto a 8gb Integral USB flash drive with an ext4 partition. When I ran it, the netbook boots fine. Setup indicates that it is using vesa under X. I configured it to use en_GB language and keyboard. However it comes up with extralang v.0.2 prompting for the package 'lang_pack_en' as it will enhance the localization. I cannot find this package. Is it something I have to download and install? I did not have this problem when I configured Lucid Puppy 5.2.5.

If I understand correctly, polarpup_003 uses a more recent kernel and was built with a newer version of woof. Can you help? Other than that, I also like this puppy.

Thanks for all the work you do to make the various derivatives.

Michael

I have that CPU too the N270. Sometimes it helps to add a code to the kernel line. nosmp due to the Atom being a single core and not multi core?

What you ask about the language package? Have you read through what pemasu has written about language package in the polar 3 thread?
and the first posts in polar 4 thread? Maybe him has made changes.

as Beem also point out. such can change.

Polar pup is more like an experiment and not an official puppy approved by Barry Kauler so I guess pemasu do write somewhere that we are a bit on our own using Polar?

Sure pemasu do care very much about us who use his pups.

I've tested almost all the Snow puppies that pemasu made and some of the Midnight Sun and Polar too and Dpup Exprimo too but pemasu as I remember do want us to read what he promise and not promise carefully so we don't get too high expectations.

so what does he say about polar pup and language packages? Maybe him did borrow that one from Shinran oops I forgot his name. try to find whom is the dev of the language package and see what he write about it.

I would try to use polar pup without it first and read through most posts to see if others have had good luck using it.

Beem has in his signature and I ahve too in my sig a link to a good search. Put language package 2011 2010 in that one and see if others also have questions about it.

Polarpup-005 has been already uploaded. I will update the first page this evening. I have just been 11 hours on the lake and helped competitioners to my boat in Finnish canoe championship, when there happened accidents. Mens 5000 m final was really dramatic. Two canoes felled and one was rejected.. I am wet, cold and hungry. I dont know how much I am able to write this evening.

Anyway. That language pack or extralang or whatever comes with Shinobars Firstrun pet. I havent ever checked what it offers. With finnish I havent ever installed anything extra. Those who need extralang packages, could check what Shinobar has posted about it. I dont have any idea. I dont include extra localizations, because they take space. I suggest you test Polarpup without hunting some extralang packages. If you seem to need it, then check Shinobars threads.

I dont much support Polarpup-003 anymore. I suggest people to update to the latest. It has gtkdialog problem fixed applications included.
