I think that I have fixed the nVidia package download. Grab these two files, gunzip them, place them in /usr/local/video_upgrade, right-click->Properties and make sure the 'execute' flags are set. |
Video upgrade now downloads both files correctly.
However, the wrong driver 71.86.14 is recommended for this card (should be the 96), but went ahead and downloaded to verify that part worked.

The usb drivers are now builtin to the kernel.
I have no problem with saving to ntfs.
I have no problem on any of my PCs with retrovol.

nVidia Report |
|
@BarryK. You asked for nVidia testing. This is a report honoring your request. It shows the successes and the single failure encountered. And, there is a compressed text file attached showing Hardinfo and RAM usage..
This is a multi-core processor PC with 4GB RAM and 2 LAN adapters used to run Live Media (CD/DVD) testing.
- I downloaded and created a LiveCD of the SMP version of 5.1.3.4.
- Booted system as pfix=ram
- I followed your instructions from your blog on d/l and setup of video driver.
- I installed TaZOC upgraded "Report-Video-GLX" PET to provide you better information regarding video.
- The driver loaded fine, but the XORG upgrade recommendation DID NOT meet the same success. It failed (see screenshots below)
- This distro overcomes the hostname problem on initial boot. But,
There still remains an issue with changing hostname after sstem desktop start; as, all fields-files do not get updated with using the Linux command to create a new meaningful hostname for the system. And there is no tool (e.g. Shinobar's "Personalize Setting") for handling hostname change after system desktop start.
The syetem is very-very responsive with all applications I launched from the Menu, working.
Hope the reports help

Whoa! couldn't get an Xorg picture on 1024x768/nV6200 on boot up although Ctrl-Alt-Bkspce/xorgwiz enable me to get an 800x600 screen. This is a new 'feature'. No woof-woof, icons askew and (again) no initial set-up panel only the regular general panel. Second attempt to get 800x600/24bit screen gave "Cannot display this video mode" which is, clearly rubbish. Try VESA - crashed, eventually got a soft reset. 754 may be a uniprocessor but hardly 'old'.
Suspending testing here - back to 5.1.4RC uni. This SMP version is unusable. Seems my blog comments were apocryphal. For Wary, tell the four-core kiddies to get lost!
One-more-time! Used VESA on fresh boot to get to an 800x600 screen. Was able to d/l & install both nV files. Ran the Xorg routine - failed. Tweaking is a bridge too far - lost interest already. All this confirms multi-proc is a waste of user time. SW gurus will always get an answer, but the great unwashed will always return to you-know-who. Don't shoot the messenger...

Congratulations, Wary Puppy are so popular that it takes a long long time to download due to server bog down out of demand for it.
I am too dense to get this uni thing but I will test both then to find out if them differ on my Atom N270 machine an Acer D250 that have only one core so I use nosmp to get it booted. 98% loaded so soon I will test it. Wish me luck folks. I get back and tell if it survived .

Why are bug reports not being taken seriously ? I am repeating same things again and again. Will stop testing soon.

Barry take such reports very seriously. You just have to be patient.
Maybe him are working on it and him report when he get success or if he gave up on solving it. Have you given all needed details on your set up and exactly what happens and so on then just feel good about your valued contribution. No need to feel neglected at all
