abiword does'nt work because there is'nt this lib libwv-1.2.so.3 (symlink to libwv-1.2.so.4.0.1)
You can copy it/them from polarpup 003

The first upload didnt have that libwv. My mistake. I have reuploaded the Polarpup-004 yesterday and that version has missing libwv included. It also has Ymount included. Otherwise same woof build. Freshly baked using fresh package creation. But previous advices are relevant for the first upload. I located the problem in specs and I have corrected it. It was due to relying more to the wary5 packages. I suspected that some apps have dependency probs due to it. Puppy 5 packages are starting to be a little old. Playdayz uses other than uploaded repo philosophy with his latest Lucid Puppy updates and I need to find a way side track to update some stuff. This was my first attempt to do that. I want to use 100 % woof builds which downloads core packages from the net repos.

Thank you all of the feedback.

Hi pemasu:
I installed polar pup004 (first upload) a few days ago on my Thinkpad R60. I also installed your Libre Office .pet (from page 16 here) and Thunderbird from the qick pet.Have been testing it for quite a long time now. Everything seems to be functioning well thus far. My only disappointment is that the audio in LO impress is not working again. I checked the PPM gstreamer and looked for gstreamer plugins, bad and ugly which are needed for the audio to function. Unfortunately I could not find these. Did you by any chance make any changes to the in-built gstreamer packages? The LO Impress audio used to function well OOB in polar 002 and 003.
Thanks!

Marco07. No. I have installed gstreamer_phono_deps-0.0.1. Which I have also uploaded to the repo as you know. I remember you once downloaded it and installed it. I checked the packages-lupu folder and it was extracted there. It shouldnt be anyway restricted during woof build by 3builddistro script. So...as far as I understand, exactly same libs framework for phonon and gstreamer is included. In that pet is quite extensive gstreamer libs included. The good....the bad....the ugly......and sergio leone.

Another issue I came across with polar 004 is that when I close the laptop lid, no suspend action takes effect. Again this was not an issue with polar 002 & 003.
Is there a configuration script for this? Please advise.
Thanks!

Marco07. Good find. You do valuable bug hunting. Thank you.
I know the reason. Notify-send and its framework does not work. I have removed those scripts which perform same things and the lid.sh script relies on notify-send and its working.
I checked and notify-send wants more libs, dont know yet how much.
I think that I go through all the /etc/acpi scripts and remove the notify-send part from them. I probably dont want all the extra libs included which are needed for simple message sending.
I will upload the updated acpi scripts pet when I am ready.

Thanks! Looking forward to updater .pet package.
BTW, I got the audio back functioning in LO Impress by installing both gstreamer bad and ugly from ubantu multiverse repo. The Bad one needed quite a few libs file, but fortunately was installed Ok.
Now, if I get the updater for the lid close correcting the lid close suspend, then this would be a perfect OS on my Thinkpad R60.

I have now stripped the /etc/acpi/ scripts so that they dont depend on libnotify-send binary and additional libs framework needed for it.
Scripts works as before.
Affected scripts are lid.sh, wlan.sh, sleep.sh and hibernate.sh. I have tested all of them. Lid close suspends to ram, hibernate script suspends to the disk, sleep.sh suspends to ram. Wlan.sh script disables or enables the wlan depending on command.
Attached pet overwrites those scripts. Nothing else.

I hope this will help.

Eztuxer. It complains that the firmware rt3070.bin does not initialize your wireless chip and so the rt2870sta driver module does not load.
Anyway, you seems to need firmware which is not included in Polarpup.
If you have working wireless with some Puppy, you should check what firmware and and also what realtek driver it uses.
Use whatever method works. The firmware is not kernel version spesific but there is possibility that you need different driver also.
lspci -nnv and post the wireless rows it produces. We will get the device Id and revision number with that command.

Thanks pemasu,

It doesn't show up with lspci -nnv because it is an usb wlan card.

I know that it works with the rt2870sta in 525 which I'm using right now.
I need to unload the module that is automatically detected and loaded at start up, then blacklist it and load the rt2870sta module.
That's what I did with 525, and it works fine for months now.
But when I do this with any puplet with newer kernel it fails to bring up the interface.
I had the same problem with snow pup a while ago, and then with kernel 2.6.33.2 in 520 then 525 it worked perfect.

I give you the dmesg from this 525 version, (in next post) so you can compare the module handling between kernels.
Don't poop it down... Pup it Up !

I couldnt find product id and rev number from dmesg post. I can see that firmware loads and driver loads ok in 525.
I still try to find out the identification of your usb wireless.
I quote Tempestuous now, which we need soon. Lol.
As with all these "what driver do I need?" requests, it's impossible to know for sure until you reveal the exact device ID.
Run this command
Code:
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

then report the "Vendor" and "ProdID" values for your wifi device.

Code: Select all

cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

polarpup 004 keyboard belgium

polarpup 004 keyboard Belgium
After install and altho I did select the be-latin1 keyboard, it stayed in qwerty.
I remember having such an issue and I think it was in one of the other 'cold' puppy's.
My graphics adapter is a radeon 7500 and the radeon driver was probed and used.

I then went to the X command prompt and the keyboard was in azerty.
I typed xorgwizard and configures for the vesa driver.

After restarting X the keyboard was in azerty.

If I recall well, in that other puppy, no solution had been found.

polarpup 004 and enlightenment
I loaded the E17 sfs (made from the E17 pet).
It didn't seem I got enlightenment.

This morning I booted and my desktop was enlightenment.

Nice addition to polarpup.

I wonder if any thing could be done about this issue I just came across when surfing the web?
It seems since I have installed two gstreamer plugins (bad & ugly) which were not included in stock 004, the mplayer no longer functions. It opens up, then stops.Everything else is working great.
Thanks!

Marco07. have you launched it in console to see error messages. Also /tmp/xerrs.log could show what went wrong.
