YouTube unsupports SeaMonkey 1.1.18
YouTube unsupports SeaMonkey 1.1.18
IE 5.5 was almost 10 years old when YouTube (owner: Google) unsupported it in spring 2010. And they gave several weeks of advance notice.
SM 1.1.18 was unsupported immediately about two days ago.
It's only 2 years old!
I smell a conspiracy!
Are Google and M$ shacking up?

Anyone with SM 1.1.19 could verify this.
I tried YouTube with SM 1.1.11 (Puppy Linux 4.1.2) last week. They even still work in SM 1.1.11.
At that time, it was still fully supported.

The only way a website knows your OS or Browser is by the user agent the browser sends it and it can be modified by the user with software such as the addon below.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamon ... -switcher/
This is the user agent for Puppy / Firefox 3.6 which YouTube accepts
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15
User Agent from JavaScript (the same)
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15
You can customize your user agent and check it at:
http://browserspy.dk/useragent.php
FYI also YouTube doesn't seem to require JavaScript or Cookies for most usage.

Running IE8 right now.
YT apparently accepts that too.
There's no "save" option for the user-agent-switcher .xpi file.
It only downloads and installs.
But it actually saves to the .tmp directory.
Just drag it out of there--to root, a partition...whatever--and rename it.
Then open your browser, and drag the file to it.
It should prompt you through the installation.

While some (or most) issues appear to be solved as it pertains to YouTube and using Seamonkey 1.1.18 with User Agent Switcher, there are some that don't work as intended, at least on my system (Puppy 4.3.2 based on 4.3.1). For instance, once a member logs in, the arrow button at the right that points downwards (default state) or upwards (to show "My Account" once clicked) doesn't work. By contrast, if I install Firefox 3.6 on this same Puppy, YouTube works as it should, including the issue with the arrow button. Of course, what I am describing is not a big issue, but I think it is worth mentioning.

I use Wary 5.1.2.( full install)
I strip the 1.1.18 seamonkey files and install Barrys' 2.0.11.
Stops the youtube nonsupport message.
Works fine with Playflash.pet.
Works fine with Video downloadhelper 4.9.5.
Has nice helper apps (like mms)
Isn't as bloated as the latest 2.3.3 in Wary 5.2

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
Except for the annoying cursor/scroll lag, 2.0.11 works pretty well.I strip the 1.1.18 seamonkey files and install Barrys' 2.0.11.
(It's included with Wary 5.1.1.)
Speed-wise, it's close to 1.1.18.
Do you use this method to strip the 1.1.18 files?
