Broadcom wireless problem in Puppy 5.2.8

Hi, I'm using the new 5.2.8. When I try to start wlan0, it gave me this error: Aug 21 00:18:28 puppypc user.info kernel: b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10) Aug 21 00:18:28 puppypc user.err kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: Initial Values Firmware file-format error. Aug 21 00:18:28 puppypc user.err kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefully read all instructions on this website. My wireless hardware (as shown in lspci): 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01) Was working fine in Puppy 5.2.5. I have the firmware file on my usb stick. Is there anyway to run b43-fwcutter manually in a terminal to load the firmware in? When I su'ed, I don't see b43-fwcutter anywhere. Thanks! |

Need more details. Puppy 5.2.8 is installed how? You start Puppy how?
You do what? You see what? You could be doing something wrong, but without specific details hard to tell. _________________ I have found, in trying to help people, that the things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem. I booted into 5.2.8 via live USB. On "Simple Network Setup", clicked on "wlan0" button. "Failed to activate interface 'wlan0. Sometimes this is just a temporary problem. Go back to the main window, and you can try again." Never mind. On trying the 3rd time, somehow it started to work again. Don't know exactly why it didn't work at first. But thanks anyways. ps. I did do a "cd /lib/firmware" and then "cd b43" and looked at the firmware files, and somehow that resolved the problem for subsequent boots. Don't know exactly how, but it works fine now. |

Same for me. Wouldn't work despite reboots or multiple attempts to scan wireless networks or use different network setup interfaces... ...until I looked at lib/firmware, then suddenly it worked fine. |
