So why play Eternal Lands, when there are so many free MMORPGs out there? Well, there are many reasons why, but here are a few:

* Friendly community. Most of the people here are friendly, and they will try to help you if they can.
* There are 12 skills in the game: Attack, Defense, Harvest, Alchemy, Magic, Potion, Summoning, Manufacturing, Crafting, Engineering, Tailoring and Ranging.
* There are no fixed class restrictions, so you can develop your character in any way you wish.

* The game client is relatively small, the download being only 50MB. That's under a minute on a cable modem, and a few minutes on a DSL connection.
* Eternal Lands is a multiplatform game, running on Windows, Linux and OSX (Mac). The client is open source.
* Some free MMORPGS have hidden costs. While we do sell items and services for $$$, most players do not buy anything, and there are quite a few top level players who never purchased anything from our store.


To play: type 'eternal-lands' in the terminal or go to 'Menu->Fun'

To change settings: Edit /usr/local/el/el.ini or use the in-game menu

NOTE: By default, I have set the graphics to low quality, for greater speed.
Enabling shadows will greatly slow down performance on many PCs.

Good Job, keep em comin sc0ttman, I installed the game and got it working and everything but how do I setup the sound configuration file?
I can't get the sound working at all.

Error:
I/O warning: failed to load external entity "sound/sound_config.xml"

Any ideas?

Sound or not, i'm officially addicted. This is one awesome rpg.

Edit: apparently you have to download the sound package and music separately from the website...

Hello, I download the SFS but it's not compatible with the LuPu5xx series.
So, I have to convert it to the new version, no error in that, and didn't work. I'm running a frugal installation from mnt/home/puppy501 (just in case of a "wrong dir" error).

Hello People,

I seem to have a similar problem as GustavoYz did. I'm running puppy linux 5.2.5 on a frugal install, i converted the .sfs put it in the boot manager and rebooted. The command eternal-lands is accepted and it does indeed appear in the menu/fun section, however on clicking/executing nothing happens.

Any idea what i could try? I'm new to puppy (and so far it's just great).

But it should work OK without any problems...

I updated the default settings, if you got an old video card, you'll thank me.. if not, you might want to re-enable some of the fancier graphics! I also removed the non-English locales, as I guess most people play the game in English anyway... Saved about 13mb Smile

As ever, the sounds still need to be downloaded separately... I had my own music playing the background when I played.. Wink
