CONGRATS ttuuxxx!
The way I look at it wuwei is like this, I've never posted anything on distrowatch, but somehow just on this forum solely by itself we've almost hit 300 pages, I've stayed in the shadows just to prove a fact, Barry likes to quickly move on to a new kernel and xorg, and make new releases which is great . I went another way and Barry went 10 different ways, I'm extremely proud of 2.14x and all the extra help that has went into it. I still think its the best puppy version ever that hasn't hit the limelight.

Are you able to both read and write to your
NTFS Drives/Partitions?
Hi Hugh,

I can read/write on my NTFS partitions from my desktop system.

I had some problems when I tested top8 in a recently acquired Vostro Laptop but it was fixed too and I wrote about the NTFS problem here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70369. I hope this information could help you.

On ntfs rw

I notice that mounting an ntfs drive by clicking on its HotPup drive icon mounts it ro, while mounting the same drive through the mut tool mounts it rw.

That explains why I could not copy from one partition to another. Thanks for researching this MHHP.

Now, is there an easy way to find info in this megalith thread, yet?

I've been pressing for access to John M's phpBB database, so we can finally sort out 'lost' info, with a proper searchable, organised database....but he hasn't replied yet....would someone like to support this suggestion?

thanks

@ Aitch:

Well, there is a way to search this entire thread. Is it easy? I am not so sure.

There is an application "Threadget"
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62236

It will load the entire thread - or parts of it - into one html file. When you open that with your browser, you should be able to search the file for words and phrases; works with Firefox, at least.

And this is of some help, too:

Excellent work guys, nice to see 2.14X finally hit page 300 :) When we hit page 200 I was a bit skeptical that we would hit 300 pages, But with a little work we did, A very proud day for all of us :)
Thanks for the praise also and 300 pages wouldn't of been done without everyone's dedications to 2.14X looking forward to page 400. :)

Hello :)!

On Threadget ...

I seem to recall that I had difficulties using Threadget in some puppy, most likely in 214X. I checked my /usr/bin/ThreadGet-file and see that I've changed three instances of /dev/shm/ to /tmp/, probably since 214X lacks /dev/shm (just from the back of my head, not in 214X atm, so cannot verify).
Anyway, after this modification ThreadGet worked as it should, produced a mammoth file of the 214X-thread  :).

Here's the latest transcoder compiled on 2.14X any testers? like what combo's work and don't, Its a shame I didn't compile ffmpeg after knowing what this little app needs, if you read the install notes in the sources it states "Transcoder 0.0.6 requires ffmpeg 0.8 compiled with "--enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libtheora --enable-libvo-aacenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-shared --enable-version3 --enable-gpl" configuration."
anyways have fun and give it a shot :), If I have to recompile ffmpeg I will, but hopefully not, I hate adding extra deps to 2.14x.

Good catch...thanks! :)

I just tried Pmount Puppy drive mounter; it also mounts NTFS partitions as read / write.

As MHHP said, 2.14x desktop drive icons mount NTFS partitions as read-only.
(But they mount other file-system partitions as read / write.)

With later-kernel Pups, everything mounts as read / write.

Well done on longest thread and nice fast puppy version. Not so well done on trying to find help. Maybe 2.14X could have its own subsection?

---

Anyways I'm trying to print to a HP photosmart 4480 - on other puppy versions using 7150 driver works, and the printer appears in some form in the device menu.

However I think the printer is missing from Device menu, or is there a different option I can choose?

Image

Any help much appreciated ;-)

Here is the latest HPlip ppd printer drivers, Install the pet than rerun the setup wizard, you should have tons of new drivers to select from :) they should have the name hplip-3.11.7 in the description,

Who woulda thunk? Thankfully MHP and others did!

Thanks fellas for the innovative testing and easy solution.

With Puppy 3.01 I am forced to use MUT since there aren't
any desktop drive icons - and I do like MUT, it's fast.

PMount is much slower but nice to know the result is the same.

2.14X is tremendous for a number of applications, and now
fully capable - when one knows the "tricks!"

300 pages is a lot of stuff! I hope a good index is being
tabulated for easy reference...

Congrats Ttuuxxx!

This is curious when I use the 'wrong' driver it will print a test page, but nothing from gtklp. Using a more compatible driver results in nothing printing.

the Printer I'm using is a USB HP Photosmart C4480-

HP PhotoSmart 7150 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.3.99.1
Device URI: usb://Q8388B?serial=TH8BPH21NC05BN

= test page only

HP Photosmart c4380 Series, hpcups 3.11.7
Device URI: usb://Q8388B?serial=TH8BPH21NC05BN

=nothing

I believe the problem could be with the device detection rather than the driver. In other version of Puppy it give me a device called something like HP-C4480 instead of USB1#(Q8388B)

Which version off puppy did work for you? preferably Wary. We can use most packages from Wary, CUPS and printing is a nightmare, I would rather take a easy way out than spend days messing around with CUPS.
