rt2800usb fails to connect

summary so far: drake03 doesnt like N wifi.
prefered driver up date in drake03 is working.
havent needed or tried to blacklist.
havent tried the tempestous mod to the rt2870sta.
havent tried the rerwin pet.

taking a break.

A complete failure in Lucid 527RC.

Same issues in other Lucids 525 and 526.

I booted and installed the 2 Pets as above
and restarted xserver both times on my multiboot USB.

Saved the file...64megs is enough.

Rebooted, did all the networking as posted,
sees my network....but will not connect....fails.

Interesting....but a PITA.

And with Squeeze...Seamonkey goes in and out with a magic act,
appears, disappears continuously....every 5 seconds or less.
Now that's something that I have never seen before.

I will stick to Wary 5.13.

no preferences added to boot config.
rerwins pet installed, maybe it didnt. ppm says it did.
wifi connect fails,
after test, Fn+F2 switches on wifi (woot!) and ath5k connects.

frequency is 2.4xxxG
perhaps looking for frequency 40.xxxN?
lupu525 does N connect but mouse-over signal in network wizard doesnt show anyinfo after frequency.
quick tests show 529 fails to connect for N wifi. so that is drake03, luci529 and slacko beta1 that fail to usb wifi N connect. is it a kernel thing? going to re-check puppeee for N wifi now.
puppee doesnt have network wizard and frisbee fails to show any signals for wifi N. when wlan is switched off in the bios, puppeee will switch wlan on again during boot. so difficult to see things truely. frisbee wont connect anything while N wifi is plugged in.

The G at the end of frequency just means Gigahertz.

I just downloaded it.

Use save as.

And then rename it.

Ralink N150 Wireless>> rename to inf
instead of zip

= rt2870.inf

Clicking on it >> comes up as text.

Don't know if this'll help or not and don't know if it's been mentioned but walmart.com sells Belkin USB wireless adapters for $12.96 ($15.06 shipped Fed-Ex) that work right out of the box with Puppy. I have two older machines running on two different models of the cheapie and they use the same driver. Also worked wih Ubuntu if it matters. They may not be the droids you're looking for, but they're cheap and work like a charm.



.....one thing though. If you use them you have set your wireless network up with WAP security. I banged my head sore trying to get them to work with WEP and NO DICE! That dog don't hunt. Nearly thirty reinstalls (full installs) later and I finally tried the WPA settings just for giggles and it fiiiiiiiiiiiinally worked.

Good luck and don't give up on Puppy.

My NetGear N150 WNA1100 USB is working on Lucid Puppy 5.25 without any extra download/configuration. I used ndiswrapper driver (attached here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 7&start=75 and with this post).

It should work for you also. In my case it is working with best security options (I think) -- WPA2 with PSK (pre-shared key). After the N150 was successfully detected and configured, I unplugged the CAT5 cable from NIC card and re-run the Network Connection Wizard, (chose WPA2 (same as in my ADSL router) and provided the PSK) and it is working without any problem.

First, the addition of a Windows driver is, by definition, an "extra download".

Second, forum member Lotica already confirmed on the first page of this thread, two months ago,
that the Netgear WNA1100 works fine with the ath9k_htc driver under Fluppy-013,
and since then we know that this driver also works in several other recent Puppy versions, most notably Lucid-5.29 beta - "Three-Headed Dog".

I would have thought that was a far more elegant solution than to use an older version of Lucid, with a kludgey workaround like ndiswrapper.
