trouble installing puppy on hard drive (v2.00)

#1 Post by shakumafu »

setting up puppy with the gui was easy enough, everything seemed to go right, but when i reboot my computer and grub loads, i get 4 messages about the inittab file (i am somewhat familiar with using the inittab file) - they are:

Code: Select all

Bad inittab entry: id:2:initdefault:
Bad inittab entry: pf::powerwait:/etc/init.d/powerfail start
Bad inittab entry: pn::powerfailnow:/etc/init.d/powerfail now
Bad inittab entry: po::powerokwait:/etc/init.d/powerfail stop
_

and then freezes there. i am using a compaq presario 1712US laptop, i dont know if that makes a difference. this computer has worked with other linuxes (linucies?) before, like suse 9.3, which took forever to load.

it seems that you have installed puppy to a partition that already has another
Linux distro installed.
Boot puppy live-cd, running in ram only,
Mount the partition, wipe all the files, unmount partition,
then run Universal Installer.

Better yet, wait for v2.01, which has some bugfixes.

thanks, it works now, i had assumed that it would have reformatted the hard drive itself as many of my other distros would, not that it was very difficult :D
