While looking at Netbeans and Eclipse I stumbled across this tiny Java ide. http://tide.olympe-network.com
Development is active, license is GPL, and the java source code is available.
At only 2.5mb it has a lot of good features for Java programmers but doesn't overwhelm the user with a too complicated user interface.
