Don't think its blinky, at least not the blinky I remember. No, this is a symbol of the earth with a monitor in front of it. Does nothing except when you hover the mouse over it then it tells you the active interface and traffic report, and if you click on it you get IP info.

Edit: Seem to have double posted, sorry, can't find a way to delete this one.

Fixed it, don't know how / why though, just reinstalled my old icewm preferences file I've used for years and this time the tray icons are gone. Strange.

After installing ffmpeg 0.8, gnome-mplayer still plays all videos in my test suite.

However, the new files are libavcodec53, and etc., but the old ones are still there libavcodec52, etc. If I manually remove the old files then gnome-mplayer does not play the videos. Maybe I need to reboot.

Thumb rule #1: when you update ffmpeg, recompile mplayer.

GNOME-MPlayer uses mplayer, which is linked against ffmpeg. The library names differ between ffmpeg libraries for a good reason - they're incompatible.

In your case, mplayer is linked against the old ffmpeg, so you'll benefit from the new ffmpeg only once you build a new mplayer against the new ffmpeg.

Got it iguleder. Thanks. For information, the ffmpeg libraries and mplayer in Lucid 5.2.5 are 0.7 from medibuntu. Medibuntu prepares custom versions of the ffmpeg libraries for Ubuntu that contain some "extra" codecs. In fact the libraries have the name extra in them (the packages do anyway). As I recall one of the "extra" codecs was needed to play some cell phone video.

Micko is a master at compiling ffmpeg--it was his version that was used in Lucid up until 5.2 (as I recall). The reason we changed was to get those extra codecs.

Thats why I asked about mplayer, but I wasnt sure how closely they are linked. I made woof build with only new ffmpeg and using Lucid 525 Mplayer package taken from EZ-Woof-525. It wont work as I suspected. Mplayer wants the previous libav* libs back and also libswscale whines after previous version.

About Gnome-Mplayer-1.0.4. .desktop file needs fixing. %U needs to be removed from the exec row and give the whole path for the icon. At least it needed for me. Otherwise works just fine.

Lucid 525 Mplayer package

On reflection, I think the lucid 5.2.5 ffmpeg is 0.6-2 from Maverick--that is, the libraries are from medibuntu for Maverick.

Thanks for checking gnome-mplayer 1.0.4 pemasu. I will fix it now. That's done. I have got to remember to check the menu entry and jwm.

Do any of the gnome-mplayers work? The default 1.0.2 was compiled by ttuuxxx. I may easily have overlooked something in the 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 that I did. Ah, someone could try Smplayer (from PPM) and Umplayer (from forum). Maybe better results there. Don't worry about the 1.0.4--I just thought it was funny coincidence that 01micko and I had done those two things at the same time without knowing.

Micko, Kevin DeKorte said the new gnome-mplayer 1.0.4 had 3,000 new lines of code. I am looking for 1.0.3 source.

I wonder if 1.0.3 would work better.

Here's ffmpeg-0.8 Note: It complained that an updated VA-API =>.32 would be needed for full API support. It also needed an updated libvpx to enable it.

As I understand it we would also need mplayer linked to the new ffmpeg libraries, plus that mplayer would have to work with the rest of Lucid 5.2.5--the problem has been, again as I understand it, that gnome-mplayer/mplayer segfaults. You didn't have anything else planned today did you?

Both gnome-mplayer and mplayer seem to be working here with ffmpeg-0.8

Ah, I see. I *think* they are working with the older ffmpeg libraries which have slightly different names and are not replaced by the new ones (such as libavcodec52 and libavcodec53). You might try deleting libavcodec52 and seeing if mplayer/gmplayer still work. The trick will be to get an mplayer that works with the new libraries but also works in lucid without segfaulting.

mplayer needs it, for sure.

I tried linking it to libavcodec.so.53 (used by ffmpeg), and it didn't work.
