5.2.5 Alsa Mixer vanishes when trying usb audio - no sound |
|
Hi,
I've just started to try a full install Puppy 5.2.5 on my ancient Dell latitude CPt (600Mhz Celeron, 192 Mb Ram). It runs a lot smoother than 4.3.1 did. i am very impressed.
But I use this old machine mainly to play music from an external HDD so I really would like to use my external Behringer sound device that did well under 4.3.1.
When I run the alsa wizard, four adio devices are shown, among them the maestro93 that is the default and the usb audio device that I would like to use. When I chose the usb thing and let the wizard do its work , the alsa mixer and the alsa wizard cannot be opened and there is no sound until I reboot the system and get the restored defaults.
Is there any chance to solve this?
Regards,

Unfortunately all of these advices did not work. I can chose the usb soundcard in alsamixer, but then there is no sound. After a reboot there's the old built-in sound device.
Listening to my music collection through laptop speakers when you have a good hifi is far from satisfying.
Any more suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance,

You might try Audacious. I use it to control my multiple sound cards. File -> Preferences -> then drop down the menu for PCM device. You might also have to go to Menu -> Multimedia -> alsamixer -> F6 and choose your device and raise the volume. I would try with a fresh pfix=ram install, so that whatever has been previously done will not interfere.

If this doesn't help, you might try Multiple Sound card Wizard

Yep, thanks a lot - the multiple sound card wizard solved my problem!

| Quote: | | After a reboot there's the old built-in sound device. | FWIW, my "modem-modprobe" package, available for the Lucid pups at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=431074#431074
contains a fix to retain the alsawizard-selected sound card across reboots. I don't know that it solves the USB-soundcard issue, but I would like to look at a diagnostic file taken after a reboot with the fix. Maybe there is something about USB cards that gets missed.
