Other small fixes.

Changes since beta 1:

Upgrade to Mesa-7.10.3

Fixed Cups permissions.

The beta 1 notes and change log are here:

Get it here:

Make sure you delete any old save files before testing. I did not upload a new devx file this time, the only change was a update to yasm.

Printing and scanning look solid. It would be nice to get some feedback from anyone using the modification for 32-bit drivers.

Retrovol sound mixer, ISO Master Pets

#4 Post by tazoc »

Here are a couple of apps compiled from source in Lighthouse 64 and tested in Fatdog64-520 beta 3.

retrovol-0.10-x86_64.pet

This Pet modifies /root/.xinitrc to autorun the tray icon only: retrovol -hide

If you use retrovol in Openbox and are happy with it, you can remove the green LXPanel volume tray icon by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Remove this item'.

I made a vlc-1.1.10-fd64.sfs which also contains the qt473libs.
You may have to restart x to see the menu entry in multimedia
depending on how you installed the sfs.
If you look under the vlc view entry at playlist you can scroll down
and in the internet section there are hundreds of icecast radio
streams and some video streams at channels.com.
I tested the sfs in the 64 bit Lighthouse pup as well and it worked.

Hi kirk,

Frugal installation on my main system is working great, so I tested it on my wife's Dell Dimension E510 Windows machine. I was pleasantly surprised, everything works like a charm, including sound and even the internet connection which is using Wifi connected with a Belkin Wireless USB Adaptor, N300. Posting from it now.

Cheers,
Jim

Did pfix=ram hdd install to ext4 manually copied files. Recognized my troublesome broadcom wl.ko wifi driver straight off. Added Frisbee-beta-2-FD64 which found wl and made connection to internet without rebooting.

Very fast responsive os without any issues noted so far.

tried download to another partition with built in browser +curl or wget, aria2 none work. I choose yes on first reboot to save downloads to somewhere outside of savefile. will this only download to that location?

found it in another thread. Under FAQ on FF home page. Not so user friendly if your expecting to attract new people to puppy. Why not make a "user guide" desktop icon linked to FAQ?

working minimac

#10 Post by Ted Dog »

got the NVedia drivers set up so only audio via hdmi left to be tested. this is the best linux version for the mini mac. saves to the 200m unused partition and boot lighting fast with no changes to the stock minimac.

Upgraded to b3, still trying to figure synatic touchpad

#11 Post by Eathray »

Kirk,

Thanks again for this amazing Puppy.

I figured out the upgrade thing. I hadn't paid close enough attention on the loading help page... fatdog pfix=ram, not puppy pfix=ram. just being in a hurry, my bad.

So I loaded to ram the b3, created the new save file on reboot, then erased the b2 files on reboot, walah. Love that you've got Firefox up and running (nothing wrong with Seamonkey, just FF has all kinds of plugins I like).

I thought maybe the touchpad might just scroll something being different in b3, but no joy. Is there a reference for me to educate myself on what all the settings do in the files you pointed me to? Mine is synaptic as you said, and doesn't seem particularly special... Can you point me in a direction?

Thanks so much for Fatdog64 again. I've been wanting to try out a dual-core machine ever since I heard there was a 64-bit Puppy available.

Firefox runs as user spot. Spot can write to a few places. The Downloads folder being one of them. See the FAQs.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I've been working on getting my sorry ironlake graphics working with the 3.0rc6 kernel. Finally did that, but then some new bugs popped up. While troubleshooting that problem I spent quite a bit of time going through the kernel config, think I've made some improvements. I kind of hate to change kernels at this point, but with the improvements and extra hardware support, it's worth a try. I'm running 3.0rc6 now. I'm expecting 3.0 to go final anytime. I'll upload beta4 with kernel 3.0. We can always roll it back if something bad turns up. I was hoping to have a RC uploaded by now, oh well.
James has made some needed improvements to Openbox's rc.xml and configured Sven to run at boot. So now some of the multimedia keys on your laptop should work, such as volume control keys. There's a icon in the tray to customize Sven.

Touchpad Issue [solved]

#13 Post by Eathray »

Hi Kirk,

I mentioned before having trouble with the synaptic pad not wanting to scroll.

As I fiddled with things, I somehow managed to break the volume control, so kind of had to start over since I couldn't fix it with normal means (pfix=clean, etc.). After redoing it, my kid did something to make it scroll. I tried it out and discovered the touchpad will scroll with two fingers, quite easily. I don't have it set that way, so maybe it's this particular unit or bios or something, but heck, it scrolls. Two fingers are better than one. Screw it, I'm happy :)

Thanks again for Fatdog. Really enjoying getting to know my way around this Puppy.
