PH101-001 - Puppy Help 101 |
|
I have released Puppy Help 101.
The attached may not be perfect but it should be of significant help to new comers.
I have not used any graphics in an effort to keep the file size down but I have used a lot of Internet links.
I guess it could be described as an interactive tutorial.
The help file installs to /usr/share/doc and it can be executed from Menu Item Documents.

Smokey01,
I put a link in the beginners section of the forum for this.
Hope it points some newbies to your fine work!
Maybe some not so newbies too.

Smokey01,
In menu->setup->Xorg Video Wizard
You do not give very much info about the programs there.
I put together some info for you to consider adding to this section.
Quote: |
Xorg Video Wizard is a collection of programs that allow you to configure the
X Window System.
The X Window System (commonly refered to as Xorg) provides the basic framework,
for building the display environments: drawing and moving windows on the display
and interacting with a mouse and keyboard. X does not mandate the user interface
— individual client programs, known as window managers, handle this.
X Window System settings are in a configuration file called Xorg.conf
This file is found in the Puppy Linux file system at /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Xorgwizard
This is the main graphics display configuration program for X Window System (Xorg). It gives you full
configuration control of the X Window System Xorg.conf file.
You can select or change:
Video driver
Screen resolution
Refresh rate
Edit Xorg.conf
This program allows you to manually edit the Xorg.conf file.
Opens the file in a text editor where you can add, delete, or move entries.
Warning do not use this unless you know what changes will do.
You can cause Puppy to not operate.
Xvidtune
This program allows you to manually adjust the width and height of the display screen.
Warning do not use unless you know what changes will do.
It has the ability to overdrive your monitor and cause damage.
Mouse/Keyboard Wizard
This program allows you to make adjustments to mouse and keyboard.
Xorg.conf has generic settings for mouse and keyboard. In most cases it is recommended to leave as-is.
Monitor Gamma Calibration
This program allows you to adjust the monitor color and screen brightness.
Resolution Changer
This program allows you to change monitor screen resolution without having to
exit from X Window System. |

The 1st bit of help someone is likely to want is:
How to convert phelp to something that doesn't need horizontal
scrolling!

rjbrewer,
Your like me. We don't need no stinking directions.
There is a note on the first screen how to use this help that points out about wordrap.
Would be nice if this was default at start.

On the introduction page
with the part about the conventions regarding
a - floppy
c - hard drive or first partition
d - CD/DVD
would it be helpful here to add usb drives (often showing up as sdb1 or others - )?
