I found it curious how with both the cpu went to 100% after clicking the wireless button to configure it....
I decided to try a new copy so I downloaded it again and tried it again with the exact same results. What gives there? |
The specs I find for the Lenovo R61i indicates that it is quite enough machine to run the latest Puppy. Did you try Lupu 5.25?

I use 5.2.5 on the R61.
Its an issue with the wireless wizard that I have. Actually 2.14x seems to run good on the a22p as well its just getting connected wirelessly using the old fashioned wireless utility that slows me down. (perhaps I'm used to Barrys simple connection wizard?)

Ahhh..sorry, I lost track of which machine we were working on...
Still, if the a22 is 1GHz, as this indicates:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4UVKVX.html
It would probably handle Lupu 5.25 fine.
I ran Puppy 4.3.1 (which in my experience is more hardware intensive) on my Asus netbook, 900MHz.
Also, I think when you pull up the connection wizard, you are given a choice (or at least you are in 5.20). I'll have to look at my laptop, as I needed the old wizard to get my modem to work (while travelling).

Adjust display of account info |
|
What adjustment should be made so that I get a "normal" display of an account in Rox?
I want entries to be regular length. The default setting is limiting entries to 7 characters long. I want to get rid of those #@$%^ red lines! (See attachments)

weird if you go to the top of rox where the column says Name and type, if you get your mouse in the middle of both column titles it should now have a arrow pointing left and right. now hold your left mouse button down and drag the column to the right to make it larger.

That's only if you're in details view, Ttuuxxx.

This moves the column width for the details mode only. The normal presentation is still the red lined mess. It is the same as 2011-06-18_09-54-58.jpg shown above.

ok well check your /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options <-- hidden folder for a number 7 or something and see if that helps, that a config file for rox, maybe back it up first

There is apparently a bug in Rox in 214X to get the strange red line display. The red line comes from merely switching to Small Icons in the Rox>Options>Display menu. To figure this out I reloaded puppy 214X and I am starting over.
In my previous installation I was using JWM, but in the new installation I can't find where to enable JWM. How do I make the switch to JWM? I, especially miss right clicking the Desktop and getting the menu.
Edit: Found the switch in the Shutdown menu. Now have JWM back and the feel of the program much better for me.

hi done why not just use large icons? I've never used the small icons rox switch. I like the larger ones the best, but I guess to each their own, glad you worked it out.

Here is a copy of my /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options file.
Edit: The Options file I originally sent was the file while large icons were selected. This edit file is the Option file with small icons selected and displaying the red-line display. I am sorry for the mix up .

Do you see anything there that is causing my problem?
I was previously using puppy 214X RC5 and did not have this problem. Unfortunately, I lost my computer and my backups. I can't find a download of that puppy so I am using puppy 214x-Top7.0.
I like it very well, so far, but the red-lined small icons with the alternative of using large icons really makes puppy 214x-Top7.0 a problem for me.
PS: Why are you working without a UPS? I have lost a hard drive and then a computer before I got a cheap UPS. I live in a rural village and line surges, blackouts, and lightning strikes are a regular occurrence.

Hi I just tested the file and also rox in 214X RC5 using 214x-Top7.0 and it had the same problem, maybe I might have to compile the latest, I'm actually doing a small update as we speak but probably won't be in it until the next release. I just don't have that much time right now.

Hi Guys, Man that gets me, I've been working on a new release all weekend, It was going great, I was at the point where I was building the new pup_214X.sfs meaning I was finished, I only had to build the iso after that and upload it. It contained a highly configured firefox that took hours to configure (you'll find out why next week ), a newer ffmpeg, xine-lib, libfaad basically it played mp4 out of the box with gxine, plus I reverted back to to the earlier networking that you had to manually configure but the wireless worked, pre Top-6 version.
So while the sfs was building I went to bar ridge in the garage and grabbed a brewskie and touched the back of the fridge, for some reason it tripped the circuit breaker and well I lost everything. What a shame it would of been a nice update, anyways next weekend I'll do it again and this time no bar fridge, lol
gggrrrrrrrrrrrr

ttuuxxx: I have edited my previous post and revised the /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options file that I included in it.
I don't know enough about that file to know if the Rox selection in
Option>Display>Icon View would make a difference in the Options file. In the Edit (above) I have included the the Option file with small icons selected and displaying the red-line bug.
PS: Why are you working without a UPS? I have lost a hard drive and then a computer before I got a cheap UPS. I live in a rural village and line surges, blackouts, and lightning strikes are a regular occurrence.
