Hi

As I live in a different country, I have to look the daily news being sended at the same time in 2 languages at different time using the web because I can not receive 2 stream at the same time on my TV.

And sometimes I would be interesting not only to look but also to record the stream. And as the French daily news are very long each day (more than 30 minutes = 250 Mb recorded in the used sending format being *.wmv) I would be very happy if I would find a light way to cut the parts of the stream being not important for me (about 25 of the 30 minutes stream ) to better find the recorded parts again and save room on my hard disk.

I did find a easy way to record the stream using VLC.

But I did not find until yet a easy way to cut the video: openshot, avidemux, kdenlive did resist until yet so that I ask now for help.

I my Debian SID I did install more video editors (melt, python-freej, kino, pitivi and videocut) to try to solve it but I have no real experience until yet in video editing.

I will after that try to write a tutorial about that job to help us to manage this trivial daily little matter...

It is the reason why I reserve the next 9 messages.

- after the that the 30 minutes daily new stream start also itself

TO DO: hit a point within the TV-Monitor with the right mouse key to save the stream url in the mouse buffer memory (see menu appeared on the screen)!

Step 2: record the Video stream using VLC

- start VLC: menu > multimedia >> Media Tools >>> VLC media player

VLC selection's window opens

- hit on selection «Media»
- hit on «Convert/Save» (one of the last selections)

new little selection windows with 4 registers on top

- hit on register «Network»
- enter the memorized url (see step 1!) from the mouse buffer in the long field «address» entering «Ctrl+V»
- hit the key «Convert/Save»

- enter the file name you wish in the long field «Destination file» (complete name including extension)!
- hit «Start»

and go to your coffee machine now, it's the best in that circumstance: the computer will be very busy and slow for a long time !

after that search how to solve the next step!

ACTION REQUISE: quand le film apparait vraiment, cliquer quelque part sur l'écrant télé virtuel avec la touche droite de la souris pour prendre l'url dans la mémoire temporaire (voir les invites apparaissant sur l'écran)!

- lancer VLC: menu > multimedia >> Media Tools >>> VLC media player

la fenêtre de sélection propre à VLC apparaît

- cliquer sur la sélection «Media»
- cliquer sur «Convert/Save» (l'avant dernière sélection)

apparaît alors une nouvelle mini-fenêtre de sélection à 4 registres en haut

- cliquer sur le registre «Network»
- entrer l'url précédemment mise en mémoire temporaire (voir tâche 1!) dans le long champ «address» en y tapant «Ctrl+V»
- cliquer sur la touche «Convert/Save»

nouvelle mini-fenêtre

- entrer le nom de fichier désiré dans le long champ «Destination file» (sans négliger l'extension)!
- cliquer sur «Start»

maintenant vous pouvez quitter votre siège et aller vous faire un café car l'ordi devient excessivement lent et il en a pour un bout de temps !

chercher ensuite à solutionner de manière propice la 3ième
tâche!

Skip 10 minutes into the video file and cut the next 5 minutes of video out and save it to a new file.

Anyway, did step 1 and 2 of your instructions and the French News video is currently downloading in the original format WMV. I presume the conversion could be handled with FFconvert. But I will report back, once I did a test.

Edit:

Conversion with FFconvert works fine. Converted the WMV to an AVI (xvid,mp3) which can be played on many modern DVD Players.

stu90's command doesn't work, although I installed ffmpeg and I can see in the terminal that ffmpeg is available. Yet I still get this message:

Ich hatte die Nachrichtensendung nach Anleitung von oui gespeichert und als Format mp4 gewählt. Die Bildqualität war streckenweise schlecht. Ich konnte die mp4-Datei aber nach der Anweisung von stu90 zurechtschneiden. Ich habe allerdings die Dateiendungen angepasst:
