record and cut TV daily news streams

#1 Post by oui »

Hi

As I live in a different country, I have to look the daily news being sended at the same time in 2 languages at different time using the web because I can not receive 2 stream at the same time on my TV.

And sometimes I would be interesting not only to look but also to record the stream. And as the French daily news are very long each day (more than 30 minutes = 250 Mb recorded in the used sending format being *.wmv) I would be very happy if I would find a light way to cut the parts of the stream being not important for me (about 25  of the 30 minutes stream  ) to better find the recorded parts again and save room on my hard disk.

I did find a easy way to record the stream using VLC.

But I did not find until yet a easy way to cut the video: openshot, avidemux, kdenlive did resist until yet  so that I ask now for help.

I my Debian SID I did install more video editors (melt, python-freej, kino, pitivi and videocut) to try to solve it but I have no real experience until yet in video editing.

I will after that try to write a tutorial about that job to help us to manage this trivial daily little matter...

It is the reason why I reserve the next 9 messages.

Kind regards

.

hit here on following url: http://jt.france2.fr/20h

- the view on the TV-Monitor is yet visible.
- a short video of publicity starts itself
- after the that the 30 minutes daily new stream start also itself

TO DO: hit a point within the TV-Monitor with the right mouse key to save the stream url in the mouse buffer memory (see menu appeared on the screen)!

FR: se procurer l'adresse url

#5 Post by puppytutorial »

#8 Post by puppytutorial »

- VLC starten: menu > multimedia >> Media Tools >>> VLC media player

Danke!

ffmpeg -vcodec copy -ss 00:10:00 -t 00:05:00 -i /root/news.flv /root/cutnews.flv

Skip 10 minutes into the video file and cut the next 5 minutes of video out and save it to a new file.

'Allo oui,

funny to meet you in the English section... :D

Anyway, did step 1 and 2 of your instructions and the French News video is currently downloading in the original format WMV. I presume the conversion could be handled with FFconvert. But I will report back, once I did a test.

Edit:

Conversion with FFconvert works fine. Converted the WMV to an AVI (xvid,mp3) which can be played on many modern DVD Players.

stu90's command doesn't work, although I installed ffmpeg and I can see in the terminal that ffmpeg is available. Yet I still get this message:

Code: Select all

# ?ffmpeg -vcodec copy -ss 00:10:00 -t 00:05:00 -i /mnt/sda2/Eigene Videos/ftv.wmv /mnt/sda2/Eigene Videos/cutnews.wmv
bash: ?ffmpeg: command not found
#
Yes, yes the file format, probably....!

I will be a bit naughty here: No problem whatsoever with VirtualDub over at the other OS

Hallo zusammen!
ffmpeg -vcodec copy -ss 00:10:00 -t 00:05:00 -i /root/news.mp4 /root/cutnews.mp4

Hello! I came here by a link, seems to be the english forum. I downloaded the news-file as described by oui as an mp4 file. The quality of the video was partly poor, as you can see in the attachment. I performed the cut following the advice of stu90 but changed the endings of the files. The cut file had the same quality as the original.

Skip 10 minutes into the video file and cut the next 5 minutes of video out and save it to a new file.

LudgerH wrote:Hallo oui!
Link beschrieben.
Gruß LudgerH
new download info from Ludger:

use the Browser AddOn DownloadHelper sometimes named Video DownloadHelper!

install it with the option "Show in Statusbar" an hit the arrow to start the download!

Hello @Stu90 and all. I see how to skip 10 and cut 5 to file. Thx

I have a video which I need to keep everything except the last 7 minutes. Anyone know how to use ffmpeg to create a new file from this?

Thanks in advance if so.
