For what it's worth, I've been running the latest Zenwalk 7.0 (Slackware based) using 2.6.37.4. Haven't tried booting from usb but otherwise it works well on all the hardware I've tested on.

Hi all,

Ok.. I'll upload 'dodgy' version tonight, in a different thread. It is just for testing and maybe Billtoo or someone with an ATI can test the compile for that driver. I have no idea how to solve the usb bug, but it must be solveable if porteus can do it. Maybe the dev of porteus will share his secret!

You know me, I'll test about anything...... Laughing

Just an update on the F11/FF/SM/jwm bug.

If you press F11 once it goes to fullscreen. Press it twice it does nothing but flicker screen, then you are stuck. Don't press it the second time and just close the browser then next time you open it it's ok.

Is there a thread on this? Can someone start one, then Joe can have some reports to refer to. It may not be his bug.

Very Happy Hello,
It is a general Mozilla bug..
I have found bug reports from various distros, with a variety of WM..
It does not work for me in xfce4 either...
So it isnt Jwm alone...
So it can be resolved....
Question

The JWM / F11 problem is also present in Lucid 525 for Firefox 4 and Opera 11 - In Opera you can exit out of F11 full screen by right clicking in the browser window and selecting 'full screen' from the menu

I did a frugal install of alpha 3.
I installed the nvidia pet using slickpet and rebooted.
I installed a few pets from spup 030, switched to icewm to use with
Tumucumaque (firefox 4.0.1)
Alpha 3 is working okay so far, I have to go out but will test more
later.

Kernel Linux 2.6.37.6 (i686)
Compiled #1 SMP Sat May 21 14:06:22 EST 2011

I installed kdegames from the slackware repository, works great.

I get an error when I try to download the kernel 2.6.37.6 kernel sources sfs, 403,permissions or something. I'd like to have a go at installing the proprietary driver but I need the devx and kernel sources sfs files.I have the devx, just renamed it.I already have the nvidia pet installed but I report-video glx doesn't give the usual info so I'd like to install the driver the hard way Smile

just tested the k2.6.35 on my desktop PC (Abit NF7 mobo, 1gz sempron, nvidia FX5200 gfx) ...
frugal install on HD ...

First, boots ok, and very fast actually.. Smile

But, before running anything at all.. I got menu issues - I cannot see the text for most menu entries..
(screen shot attached - hope it came out ok, not sure yet)

Tried to restart JWM, restart X, reset/change JWM and GTK themes, re-run zorgwizard.. nothing...

After exiting to prompt (via menu, I found it ok), I could not get back to X with 'xwin', had to re-run Xorg wizard.. Probe makes me use 'nouveau' apparently (btw)...

Also, the buttons on this forum (in Seamonkey) are missing text until I highlight them, then it appears. Clicking the menu while running the browser makes it much worse.. I think this may have been reported earlier, about Retrovol... I guess the browser rendering issue is known, then...

But not sure about the JWM menu..

Secondly, my drive icons have disappeared from the desktop after restarting X.. as have my tray icons - they are replaced by gray squares, or not loaded... Highlighting the (invisible) drive icons brings them back, but cannot get the tray apps back at all..

And I have no option to minimize GTK file chooser dialogs.. is that expected/deliberate?

I had video issues (bottom half blacked put video) with GNOME players defaults settings, much better success with the X11 video output thing in GNOME player, which works great, and sound worked at first boot...

Gonna create a save file and see how I go... I'm sure OpenGL will fix a few of these rendering issues....

EDIT:

tried 'nv' driver, would not load X.... Tried 'vesa' driver (still Xorg, just 'vesa' driver), same as 'nouveau' driver. Will install OpenGL now, if possible...

EDIT EDIT:

Oh ok, no drivers for me yet...

Got back into X, tried to install a few small pets (mtleafpad, mtcelledit, defaults-chooser, deadbeef, from my HD, and X crashed after the 3rd PET installed..

Cannot get Xorg to work again, now keep getting "mv: NVDIAL120B not a dir"... So I loaded up Xvesa, which works really well indeed... Very nicely actually!

other notes:

PPLOG starts with a 403 error (forbidden, permissions problems)

Slickpet asks me to create a save file, so I can use sfsget, but I see that OTF SFS loading is installed....

Pnethood works fine, I think it's finding everything - where older versions didn't...

The minimalist Deadbeef I installed won't load... Needs libsamplerate.so.0 ... Could not find anything to create the symlink, guess it's not installed by default (not a bug, I know - but can't find it in PPM, or on forum)

Maybe also a symlink called defaultmusicplayer to defaultaudioplayer - I think musicplayer is used in older pups.. nice to be consistent - in case anyone installs some older stuff that uses it.

also, installed Powertop from PPM, says no ACPI info available, and that it "needs CONFIG_TIMER_STATS compiled in the kernel" to work. if that is important/useful (i dont know)

Will do!
As you can see below
I had to
1. boot with parameters 'Puppy pfix=nox, ram'
(a basic boot gave me a woof woof sound and black screen)
2. At command line ran xorgwizard and selected vesa

This is the known procedure - that is working
woof woof sound is good - Ethernet connected
Good stuff!

Code:
Thu 26 May 2011  Operating System: Slacko Puppy-121.01  Linux 2.6.37.6
0.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350]
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS  product: RV710 01.00

X Server: Xorg   Driver: vesa
X.Org version: 1.9.5
  dimensions:    1280x1024 pixels (342x271 millimeters)
depth of root window:    24 planes

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
 Core 0: 2593  1: 2593  MHz

. . . wonder how many slickpet (quickpet for slackware)
progs work?

Many thanks Smile

whoops, most of my previous post about Xorg related issues can be ignored then, I guess... Embarassed

I trying to get 121.02 installed on my main box but it's fighting me. Smile
Tried my usual manual frugal install.Initial boot..... distorted display and locked up computer.Added pfix=nox to menu.lst.....went through xorgwizard, clicked "test" and....distorted display and locked up computer.
Booted a cd pfix=nox, chose the nv driver and it's working. Smile Used the installer and I'm hopeful X will start this time.

I did check the md5 too.

Once I convinced xorgwizard to use the correct driver "nv" 121.02 seems to work pretty well.
