F-Prot-6-Lucid - Anti-virus for Puppy 5.2.5

#1 Post by Perry Nium »

Pleased to say I managed to get this working, thanks guys. Nice to have an antivirus scan I can run from Puppy to give my USB drives and Windows C: disk a good search.

1) Install fprot-6-Lucid from Puppy Package Manager
2) Open a terminal ("Console" icon)
3) cd /opt/f-prot
4) /opt/f-prot/install-f-prot.pl (this updated to the latest definition file)

Then, this scanned my second USB stick :
fpscan /mnt/sdc1

Note that step 4) didn't work until step 3) moved into the right folder - from any other location it complained about file paths.

8)

I have also tried out f-prot but maybe the xf-prot version.
While I did that I found a thread and forgot to bookmark it
and it was about many such anti-vir programs and the winner
was Bitdefender and as number to or second runner up was
avast but them did not even mention F-prot.

Maybe because it is a CLI mainly program?

Nwo I fail to find that thread. Searched for four hours.
used three different search engines.

What did happen to that thread? Where is it?
Avast is one of the best. F-prot was not even considered.

Ooops Avast really is in the rescue versio Avast-1.3.0

So that is a good thing. Now I only need to get the email address to give to avast then?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Nooby if u want a pet of avast I can post it up tonight for u. The problem wit bitdefender is its not free like avast is. I tried f-prot cause I was gonna put it in instead of avast but too many false positives and it missed some that avast caught.

Nope I will use the Pupu-rescue instead. That way I get a better Lupu 528.

I only did mention Bitdefender to be complete in case somebody remember where them read the txt.

I feel good about using avast. The Linux site that did the test did not even testing f-prot and that makes me not interested in F-prot but I know it is there if one need it. I tested it and it found nothing and that is alarming. it should find a lot of things that the malware has placed there.

After deleting and re-installing F-Prot I got it to work no clue why maybe a bad down load or install the first time.

if it is not a huge bother DPUP5520 pet of avast would be nice.
I like to have more than one antivirus so I can double check i find that what one might miss the other often picks up on.

Here's the thread for the pet you wanted http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 117#570117. After you install it you need to reboot (to run the update patch) then run the Avast Update because I stripped out the AV Signature File in order to save size on uploading/downloading.

Edit: I forgot you need a key too before you try to update the av database.

There is already an Avast PET in the Puppy 'common' repo:
