Wary mediaplayer edition

MD5Sum 487edb7366a14530a1fab7a30280bc9a wary-511-k2.6.32.28_MediaPlayers.iso

If you want to play midi & kar ( karaoke) files install this and just click on the file and they will play and if its a kar file it will display the lyrics so you can sing along.
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Wary/So ... 0-i386.pet <-- install to play midi&kar files
http://www.cdgskaraoke.com/main_en.html <-- karaoke files

I was trying to view a video file that wouldn't play on Mplayer with Wary, and then I remembered about 2 months back I compiled the latest VLC, and so I tried the pet and it worked, so I quickly made this for myself but figured why not toss it out there to the rest who might need it.. Basically its 35MB of useful bloat :)

Basically Wary comes with Mplayer, Ogle, Pmusic.
So I added
- VLC <-- default video player
- Smplayer
- Gxine
- Xine-ui
- DeadBeef <-- default- audio player
- Xfburn
- Galculator
- An older Gimp that works very well and loads quick
- Easy image resizer
- screengrab
- Lx Task Manager
- Transmission
- Htop
- Blue Moon Icon theme + network manager icons (Blinky)
- JWM reverted to jwm from 2.14X, I really dislike the newer one that swaps desktops by using the mouse, drives me nuts.
- Flashblock

I altered Seamonkey to function more like firefox, eg home icon, personal bookmarks, and if you hit f9 and select search and drop the menu you can search this forum and also barry's blog and few others.

I removed
3 calculators since I included Galculator
removed top, since I added htop

Thats it :)
enjoy

Thanks, ttuuxxx, it works fine. But I do have a question. Why does it appear that everyone who writes media versions of Puppy seem never to include a midi player. I know Timidity is available, and it would be really nice to see someone include it in a media version so I wouldn't have to add it later. There are some (at least one) of us who enjoy playing midi files.

The main reason why is that it takes an extra 4.4MB compressed to play midi files due to the soundfonts, But being the nice guy that I am, I compiled timidity the same one that pizzagoods did since it hasn't been updated since 2004 and used his soundfonts, then I integrated into rox, so now all you do is install the pet and click on a midi or kar file and it automatically plays and displays lyrics if its a kar file. You can download it on the first post..
Lots of good reading at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=225018
If it was only say 100kb I could justify it, but over 4MB for one audio format is just too large.

Wary mediaplayer edition

#9 Post by l2ulinux »

Please keep this a on going release? I use it to watch TV on the internet. This is the best I have found in the Puppy releases.

It works and please do not let it die here. We have to many builds that just stop with one release.

Hi l2ulinux
Basically this release was to view a one off movie, Its done what was needed. But It doesn't mean I won't do it again for other puppy versions in the future :)

media player wary

Just the sort of Puppy I needed. I've used your VLC for a while now but it always froze my toshiba portege laptops. This Wary version works perfectly.

Thanks ever so much :D

Any idea if the VLC version in this iso would be capable of streaming audio across my home network from one Puppy PC to another?
cheers.

Swtich the kernels to run on my laptop

#14 Post by Pelo »

Reamsterized 3.0.25 for use on my laptop Medion Akoya P7624.
Wary Mediaplayer > zdrive extracted from Racy 5.3
(firmware and modules from lib, plus modules from etc)
Xwin startxfce4
pupsave renamed racysave.
That is ok, here I am, wireless connected. :) C'est en français en plus, nice !
I am used to changing kernels now : 30 minutes are needed ( newbies, pls read carefully 'how to swith the kernels' topic of this forum. A quarter of an hour is the minimum to understand, but you will be efficient)

The most simple process. Just rename Wary sfs in Racy Sfs, and some details.

Remasterized 3.0.25 Wary 511 media,

#16 Post by Pelo »

Remasterized 3.0.25 Wary 511 media, but different as above, more multimedia applications available.
Why ? because our new Puppies 2016 fail where wary did it easy (with 150mb only) :)
Look is vintage, wait few hours, this Wary will look as the last Puppies 6.03 64 bits ...
Newest puppies have trouble with DVDs, incredible

Seamonkey replaced by QTWeb at home

#17 Post by Pelo »

Seamonkey replaced by QTWeb at home, because seamonkey refused to update, QtWeb is not perfect, but i like the appearance. French translation is provided inside the pet
Apps are <= 02apr2012. there are so many. They work, that is what passengers ask for. Later stuff will cost more, and perhaps not available at all.
Wary mediaplayer edition should player your music on most computers
I needed to change kernel for my medion p7624 (to 3.0.25 racy 5.3). Not sure a Puppy shall offer such a menu, multimedia, for a Puppy as thin as this Wary edition.
"Basically its 35MB of useful bloat"
I remasterized my French Wolx 5.5 to take advantage of So many multimedia apps > toutou_wolx_5.5.sfs: 121 M remains lighter than most of Puppies
Wolx Iso Available here I trim the fat of WOLX, And I get More apps available. (Its because nowadays Puppies are to please Puppy buiders, not passengers)

Wary and Racy success wireless drivers

What makes me happy, however i'am speaking alone here, is that Wary is still very used by Puppy linux passengers. Proof there, and passengers don't get stuck at the socket !
