Latest Ubuntu Kernel

#1 Post by purple_ghost »

Ubuntu 11.xx beta is supposed to have the Linux kernel which has the big speed increase for web browsers.

Can anyone here offer an opinion as to whether this new kernel is really as neat as some make it sound?

If so, how long will it be before the latest kernel is in Puppy?

It is already possible to use that kernel it seems.
But still experimental. See this topic

I am curious about this also, but too technically challenged to try it out myself

Of course the question could be raised if Puppy really needs even more speed...

Faster internet browsing is always interesting.

As I understand the story: Linus Torvalds himself said that a bit of elegant code which was only a few hundred lines, could increase internet browsing speed by a - major amount. This code was to be included in the latest Linux kernel.

As I asked, is this new kernel as neat as it sounds like it might be.

Thank you for the link, I found it after I started this thread. I am guessing that as Puppy has a lot of things not in it, that are in full featured Linux Distros, that one must do a bit of work to get the kernel in shape for Puppy.

IMO: The full featured Linux distros, like Ubuntu, emulate Windows in being bloated to the point of being slow.
