OMG! where have all the calculators gone?
OMG! where have all the calculators gone?
I remember my first go on puppy. It was puppy 4.3.1, and after it had booted up, i had a look in the menu to see what apps it had. When i checked out the business menu it was full of calculators! and i don't know why, but this put a big grin on my face Why would anyone need so many calculators? I had no idea, but i thought it was brilliant!
I now use lucid puppy, and while playdayz, micko1 and all the other developers have done amazing work, and put together my very favorite distro and os, they have done one very bad thing........ removed all but one of the calculators
the business menu now looks sadly neglected, and new users are now no longer able to discover that happy 'calculator wonderland', in the boring business category.
So, to re-address the balance, and buff=out the business category, i am proud to present,...
TheHappytimeCalculatorCompendiumpack!
13 amazing calculators! all bundled together into a single sfs. Every single one of them appearing in the business category.
The happytime calculator compendium pack can be download here........
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ju8oc54gq ... k_sfs4.sfs a dinky 37.54mb
MD5 c322e2e4576a00bdc9462ff3f688f97f
If anyone's interested, i could make them a pet, that makes all the calculators auto-start at boot up. Also i would urge everyone to post in all puppy development threads, asking for more calculators, as.................
you can never have enough

p.s. one calculator requires java, and another actually needs your graphic drivers installed!?!

Hello,
Yes, we were severely lacking in calculators with 4 or 5, but 1???
Seriously...This is what I love about Puppy...a sense of humor...
I once released a Puplet with 12 browsers....but only 3 calculators... ...
I cant "calculate" its importance but...
Its "Equal to, more than, or less than" its need...
All in all, I`d say its an idea that "adds up"...LOL...

Agreed - the business menu does look a little sparse without a few calculators in there.
But then so does the "Personal" menu as well - unless you fill it with a load of different timer apps, like I did in Puplite. If you like ridiculous amounts of calculators, then you might like the wide array of timers and clocks too!!

yes sc0ttman, the 'personal' menu could do with a bit of sprucing up. Everyone needs clocks,.. where would we be without them?... Back in the primordial soup is the answer!..sc0ttman wrote:Agreed - the business menu does look a little sparse without a few calculators in there.

Clocks make people feel safe and happy
please post your clock pets here!

Hello !
Wonderful, 666philb .
I, too, have made joking remarks about the smorgasbord of calculators available in most puppies . The truth is, I've used them - and, since all of them have their individual quirks and varying degrees of "crippled"/missing functionality, I've come to realise that I need a couple of them.
A few months ago I went through the list of calculator projects at sourceforge (hundreds), compiled and tried the ones that sounded at least half-decent from the description - only some 20 calculators passed as interesting - the ones that worked to my satisfaction (quirks and missing functionality aside) were to my (not) surprise the ones mostly included in puppy .
Still on the look-out for the calculator that'd make me state "I need only one" .
Downloaded your .sfs and will try the calcies out as soon as I find the time.
Thanks /

Here's what I got in Puplite: excessive timers ahoy! (Which is funny to me, cos I never use them, and am TERRIBLE at time-keeping!)
