Cannot connect to network in Lucid 5.2

#1 Post by farid02 »

I downloaded the new Puppy Lucid 5.20 but cannot gain access to the internet. I have a wired connection through router with a DSL Modem. The Broadcom is not connecting. The machine is a Dell MT 230 with 4 GB DDR 3 and 2.93 GHz processor. Just cannot connect to the internet connection which is always on.
Please help.
A direct reply through e-mail would be appreciated. My e-mail id <faridansari@hotmail.com>
Thanks.

open a terminal session and run the "ipinfo" command. Post the info for IP address, gateway, and DNS.

Also try pinging 4.2.2.2 and let us know the results.

Running Lucid 5.2 from USB - cant connect to wireless

#4 Post by dwilson626 »

Hi I have a wifeless DSL connection and currently connect without problem on my windows 7 OS however when I boot to Lucid 5.2 from my USB drive i cant find a wireless connection. It finds the appropriate hardware but no connection is found to connect too. I just want to use this connection to surf the web. What necessary first steps can i make to connect to my available connection?

Thanks

Ive tried that. It cant find any valid connection. Im wondering if i has anything to do with my network not being secured highly enough. Will keep or cause the available network from appearing?

I'm reasonably confident that you have an onboard Broadcom ethernet chip, supported in Puppy by the tg3 driver ...
but this driver often requires the "broadcom" PHY driver as a dependency, which is not automatically loaded.
The solution, in theory, is as I posted here four days ago -

Unfortunately, the original poster in that thread has not been courteous enough to confirm if my suggestion worked.
