What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

Asus P5LD2-VM: GB Ethernet not recognized?

#1 Post by okok »

I ran Puppy 109 from a live CD on a computer with an asus P5LD2-VM motherboard
( http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3 ... odelmenu=1 )
with an on-board LAN Intel Gb controller. Auto-detection failed (and a wizard I ran asked me a scrrenshot of the to e-mail the failed results to the puppy creator).

I have tried many distributions of many sorts, and so far, this is the only one that failed to autodetect and configure my network connection properly.

Any advice?
(I also have the impression that my SATA HD is not accessible to Puppy, so I couldn't save the screenshot where I can later access it from another OS)

The first thing to try is the latest Puppy-2-alpha snapshot, and see if that has the driver for your network card. Gigabit ethernet is better supported in the 2.6 kernels. That may help with your SATA drive as well.

Thank you. So should I abandon any hope to solve this problem in the current stable verstion?

Is the 2alpha version sufficiently stable to be used seriously without fear of running into problems?
