Announcing Wary NOP 511

#1 Post by gray »

Nearly Office Pup is a puplet without any office applications, the idea being that you use an sfs pack to add what you want - such as Open Office.

Download the WaryNOP-511.iso from : http://downloads.tuxfamily.org/nop/
size : 113 Mb

or WaryNOP-511small.iso 98Mb (fewer drivers as the more obscure are missing)

Note Open Office 3.3 sfs also available from the above site ( 122 Mb )

This NOP is derived from Wary 511 by remastering. As with previous NOPs the window manager is XFCE which replaces JWM. I have stuck with XFCE 4.6.2 as 4.8 is still flaky IMHO.

NOP has Thunar replacing Rox as file manager.
Opera 11.01 replaces the Seamonkey suite.
Many apps besides Abiword / Gnumeric removed such as Homebank, Geany, Sane, Gtkam, inkscape, notecase etc . Thes can be added in by the PPM if required.

Note if you are using QuirkyNOP carry on - this is not an upgrade but targets older machines.

known issues:

There is a symlink missing which prevents the clipboard manager from running. In /usr/lib run the command ln -s libexpat.so.1 libexpat.so.0 and then restart X & it should be fixed.

Hi gray

Did a frugal install on my Eee701SD with 512mb ram and a celeron proc.

It flies - and xfce / thunar are so nice to use on a smaller screen,
as is opera - fantastic.

So quick and easy to setup from scratch too.

Luvly puppy - v best - Ray

no pcmcia detection after full install

#7 Post by oligin10 »

If anyone can help on this, I have installed this 3 times for full install, and every time after install, pcmcia card is not detected. This is the first time I have encountered this. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Edit: Let computer set overnight and after returning from work, upon boot, it recognized pcmcia card. But now usb drive is recognized as floppy. Still works, just wrong icons.

Gray,

Do you think the Wary upgrade service pack to 5.2 would be fine for this version? Recommend against?

Thanks

Eathray
