Hi trapster,

It mounted this time, but the vmlinuz is corrupt :( i'm wondering if it's where you are uploading that's the problem? I can't access the site from the uk and have to get people off puppy chat to download it for me. i'll pm you my uploadingit details, if you wouldn't mind trying to upload it there.

What md5 do you have for the original?
these are the md5s from post 1 and 2

1 917b5fbc2ed8b5b6a8cbefd40c02a654 didn't mount
2 580ee991630df3d7f95264940c41d5d2 corrupt vmlinuz

I hope you don't mind trying again, I was so excited when it mounted!

trapster, are you sure you don't have file size limit or something on that server you're uploading?

First iso was 19.8 MB, second one is 19.7 and in your post says it's 20.7?
so yeah post md5sum of the copy on your local disk and try to upload somewhere else.

Hi

I have uploaded copies of the following:
  • cd-puppy.iso (0.4)
    cd-puppy.iso (0.6)
    cd-puppy.iso (0.7)
    cd-puppy.iso (0.7.2)
    cd-puppy.iso (0.7.4)
    cd-puppy.iso (0.8.5)
Rather than put links to individual files, i will just put a link to the directory containing them all: vintage-puppies
because i will be uploading more versions soon (as time and bandwidth allows).
The usual username/password combo is required.
Thanks to russoodle for giving me the space to host them.

These are the others that i hope to be uploading:
  • puppy-0.9.8R2-firefox.iso
    puppy-0.9.9-firefox.iso
    puppy-1.0.0alpha-firefox-multisession.iso
    puppy-1.0.0-firefox.iso
    puppy-1.0.1-mozilla.iso
    puppy-1.0.2-mozilla.iso
    puppy-1.0.3-mozilla.iso
    puppy-barebones-1.0.4.iso
    puppy-chubby-1.0.5-mozilla-openoffice.iso
    puppy-1.0.6-mozilla.iso
    puppy-1.0.8-mozilla.iso
    Puppy109CE-KDE3.5.2.iso
    puppy109CE.iso

I do have more than those, but thought i'd stick to pre version 2.
I can also vouch that the copy of Puppy-0.4 works OK (see pic)
it's md5sum = e5d932b87638a1a2187b4221faa566f2

It booted up OK in a IBM Thinkpad T21 (with a ps/2 mouse attached)
but failed to boot in a Dell Latitude D505

Info regarding the kernel for v0.4:

Code: Select all

uname -a
Linux puppypc 2.4.18-14custom #1 Tue Jun 10 17:07:36 WST 2003 i686 unknown
Hope someone finds something amongst those that they like

catdude wow!!!

what an amazing collection, thankyou so much for posting them. I had a go on puppy 0.4 straight away. I must admit i had some difficulty setting the video mode and i couldn't get it to connect to the internet.

Here are some more pictures........

help text
Image
multimedia apps music/video/paint
Image
endeavour file manager
Image

includes xpaint 2.7, endeavour 1.13, xtar archiver, ted word processer 2.14, abs spreadsheet 0.908, dillo browser 0.7.1, gcombust cdburner 0.1.54, spruce email 0.6.5

Only three more puppys, until we reach the 'holy grail' of puppys past.

I contacted Robert Fuchs asking if he would make his puppys available, and he said he would be happy to. Then catdude posted with all those puppys. I asked if he had any of the missing ones 08, 03, 02, 01, but unfortunately he hasn't.

No connection in an early Puppy

#32 Post by drongo »

@ 666philb and others,

One of the early (pre 1.x) Puppies could not connect to an ethernet network. It may have been 0.4 . Back in those days someone called GuestToo (I think that is the spelling) used to provide bugfix upgrades whilst Barry worked on the next Puppy. (This was an informal arrangement, I think Barry provided bugfixes as well.) I don't know if this problem was ever fixed but everything was working in the next released Puppy. (The release schedule was pretty frequent back then.)

I think GuestToo also came up with the "pet" idea but he doesn't frequent the Forum any more.

Look at the size of those early ISOs. I was on dial-up then so Puppy was quick to download compared with everything else except DSL.

Release schedule was every 6 weeks
GuestToo came up with the .pup format which were the simpler precursors of .pets

Whoops, of course I meant DotPups not Pets.

Too scared to edit my post now in case I wreck the thread by making Lobster's post more nonsensical than usual.

Thanks CatDude, for uploading these and for all your other work. I may have some of the missing ISOs. If I find them I'll let you all know. (I'm not going to actively look for them, but they'll probably turn up when I'm looking for something else in my horizontal, open-cast, filing system.)

Having a hard time finding them is an understatement mate,
honestly, i have searched high and low to no avail.

So i would love copies if you do have them.

Have you got/does anybody need Grafpup_deluxe-104 and Grafpup-201alpha1-opera?
I can provide them if necessary, but I'd rather not if someone else has them and has spare bandwidth to upload.

Is anything else still needed?
I also have 1.08R1 and a disk of what I think is chubby puppy 1.0.4, as well as a few 2.x releases.
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Hi disciple

If it's 1.08R1 mozilla then yes please upload. It's one of the missing puppys. You don't have to keep it linked, i'll download it and get it mirrored with the other puppys at brainwave, and catdude may put it with the other vintage pups.

thanks
