i18n for usb_modeswitch, filemnt and resizepfile.sh |
|
Added gettext to some usb_modeswitch scripts to show messages about 3g-modem incerted. Put them into pupdial domain. Note that script usb_modeswitch is from /lib/udev/. It is not gettexted, but used to give localized start to /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch_status. filemnt and resizepfile.sh are in resizepfile directory.

Don that was good suggestions about how to express such instructions to those who use Wary Puppy for the first time. It add to the good feeling of the new user. They know that the Devs care about the details that much. Such are much appreciated.

got a boot on 'safe mode' .... starts like a charm "out of the box" !...

How to include additional packages in the live CD |
|
The wary-503q-k2.6.32.28-small.iso does not include lang_pack.
It is convinient if the lang_pack is on the live CD.
How to make a localized remix is described before.
But here is an easier way, how to make the live CD contains additional packages:
- The Puppy you run should be wary-503q(and later quickset edition).
- Make a directory '/mnt/home/puppylivecdbuild'.
You can use another partitions like '/mnt/sdb1/puppylivecdbuild'.
Any file system is allowed for the partition.
Ensure the directory must be at the top layer of the partition,
and the name must be exactly the same 'puppylivecdbuild'.
- Mount the 'wary-503q-k2.6.32.28-small.iso'(and later quickset edition) by one-click.
- Copy all the contents inside the .iso into the directory 'puppylivecdbuild'.
- Unmount '.iso' by one-click.
- Copy additional packages as you like into the directory 'puppylivecdbuild'.
You can place them at the same layer with another files, or you can create subdirectry like 'opt'.
- You can edit the file 'menu.lst' if you like.
- Run 'remasterpup2' from the main menu > Setup.
- Choose the partition.
- The remasterpup2 finds the 'puppylivecdbuild' directory and offers 'reuse it'.
If it doesn't and asks where is the live CD, something is wrong. Check the partiton and the directory name.
- Continue remastering along with the dialog.

warning message |
|
My language pack is located on USB stick.
When I tried to unmount the USB stick, I fortunately got a warning message.
The message didn't mention that a language pack was currently in use.
Instead the message mentioned a kernel needed the USB stick.

Is it a PET or SFS?
Did you load it by the sfsf_load?

- And, Can PETs/SFSs be copied without modification?
- Or, do they need to be expanded so that only their contents are copied?
Would you kindly answer Yes/No to these please.
Thanks in advance

Yes for the both.
Note that it does not mean they will be automatically installed at boot.

kernel message during unmount of USB stick |
|

If my memory is correct, here's what happened.
I was running Wary quickset with a frugal installation
using the English language. I decided to switch to French.
I had wary-502q-k2.6.32.28.iso stored on a USB stick and it had the
language packs inside.
I clicked once on the ISO to mount it.
The 'Personalise' application gave me an Open Dialog Box
so I could attach the French language pack inside the mounted ISO.
Later I then tried to unmount the USB stick with a right click on
the desktop icon, but I got the warning message that a kernel operation
was in progress.
So I stopped the unmount and everything was okay afterwards .

Maybe you needed to click it again to unmount the iso after installing the PET package.
Also for SFS's, the sfs_load offers or automatically copies the SFS so that you can unmount the iso after loading the SFS.

Intel driver vs 504q-k.2.6.32.28 |
|
Merci shinobar,
have removed /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf
reboot
Yess! now pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace returns to the command line as usual !
Charlie
last edited: hope this helps....I also tried to edit i915.conf doing
| Code: | | options i915 modeset=0 | instead of modeset=1
result: OK! also Ctrl-Alt-Backspace returns to the command line
(I presume it has the same effect than remove i915.conf...)

Thanks Charlie. It shall be commented out at the next release, hopefully the last Release Candidate.
