Malware-bytes -anti-malware... great
alas >>Spybot search and destroy
is not recommended.
Best free firewall >> Comodo
has its own antivirus as well...if you want to install it.
I use Avira Free myself.
The newer Zone Alarms >> last 5 years >> don't bother.
I still run XP with >> ZoneAlarm Free...5.5.062.011
over 5 years old. But you have to know how to set it up.
Chris.

I was searching Ubuntu Forums tonight when this popped up on my screen!
What the heck is going on???????? |
This requires drastic measures:
Ten years ago, a crack command line unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Linux underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of penguin. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The Puppy A-Team.
Put out the call . . .

The only reason why it looks like it works is because it javascript based, Basically if you visited a site that gives you a popup and you click to close it and it opens another instance of it up, just go into the privacy section of the browsers preferences and disable javascript. Really most of the actual mallare/adware backend won't and If you want to feel really safe, you can clear the history, and even go one step further and delete /root/.mozilla/firefox/1434sdd.default (some number)/Cache Seamonkey is the same also.
The nice thing about mozilla Browser is that all use the same location for storing all junk files, also there should be a /extensions folder, If you haven't added any extensions then it should be empty or not even there, if it is there look inside and delete it. The default /usr/lib/firefox/extensions is main one for puppy 5, or /lib/firefox/extensions If I put it together. but those don't get altered, they are default, user installed extensions are always in /root/.mozilla/firefox/ etc.

Well, OK...Since I managed to stumble on a forbidden site ... and since I've been educated to download only from 'official' sites.... my question is, Is it safe to download from Mozilla SeaMonkey site?
The SeaMonkey browser on my machine is 1.1.18 and I would like to update it.
Is it ok to download from the official Mozilla site?

It's save. Though if you are updating the one that comes with your puppy that you are using (Is it 4.3.*?). You will need to change a few things I think. (Some one correct me please. If I am wrong.) because some apps (E.G Cups (Printing)) will not work other wise.
Personally I recommend a portable version. See Puppy Linux Discussion Forum :: View topic - [HowTo] Make Firefox Or Other Mozilla Based App Portable. This will work with Seamonky v2.

Thank you. Not sure about the portable part.
I hoping for a simple switch to a browser that has cleaner icons than SeaMonkey 1.1.18 see discussion: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=63016&start=15

...as long as you don't have a Windows theme set up in IceWM or other window manager?
Have to wonder how these fake Windows warnings appear on a Mac, at that.

It was a spoof.
Even at that, having viruses doesn't mean a machine is infected.
When I used Windows and an email client, Eudora, I downloaded
many viruses. But the machine never had an infection. Just files
sitting in a directory which happened to be viruses.
On Linux the problem is harder. You have to sit up all night figuring
how to run the viruses. You can't just click on them.
Probably with wine, but they may not do what they were supposed to
do.
