i was able to get a few things with quick pet, but after updating i get 'quickpet does not support your version'. it opens but will not download or install.
and i cannot get anything from repositories, when i test the url's i get 'recursion is disabled'
any suggestions?

The new version of quickpet is set up to be used with different types of puppy. It checks to see if you are running lupu or spup etc. But The new version wont accept "macpup" The version I have in the new pup is set up to work with macpup. 01micko made it form me. You can try it in 511 to see if it works. It runs great in 520.

i think i updated the wrong version allright, and that killed quickpet. i will try uninstalling that update pet. if that does not get it working again, i will try the custom fix.
still no word on ''recursion is disabled", and i have searched.
i can always just look for http downloads of the few things i want to get going, or just start with a new iso.
i collected up all your themes, and can use them on other installs as well...again great job putting this together, and of course agust's themes are awesome.

i finally made it through this whole thread....instead of tweaking 511, should i just wait for 520? sounds like you are close to a release.

allright thanks for heads up.
i think i'll still reinstall the flash anyways but wait for the new version before setting everything up.
you guys got me hooked on enlightenment back with buddapup and foxy, now i cannot use anyother desktop! after trying pretty much every distro i settled on pclos for my full installs. However, macpup is kicking butt and i look forward to getting back to a lighter, leaner, and meaner distro!

We have run into a few unforeseen bugs. As soon as we get them worked out we will post the new pup.

It looks fabulous and I will be looking forward to it with eagerness. (My only problem with 5.2 is I can't get JACK audio to install on the official version so it won't be any good to me unless I can solve that. )
Thank you all for your time and effort providing all of the rest of us with such a great gift as Macpup!
Cheers
Graham

You should post that issue in the 5.2 thread. We dont change anything with the sound so that problem may still be there .

Sorry. I wasn't asking anything here, just musing on not being able to use the new macpup when it arrives (unless I've solved the problem by then).
I've put a post in Beginners and entered it as an issue on the Googlecode site. Hopefully I will find a solution and continue on the Macpup journey.
Regards
Graham

Macpup511 frugal install hangs at "Starting up ..." |
|
I've just done a frugal install to a reformatted SATA hdd. All appeared to go well and I made sure I had the correct text in grub's menu.lst
My problem is that when I restart from the hdd, I get the grub menu fine and select the (only) install. The screen goes black with "Starting up ..." and that is as far as it gets.
I rebooted with the CD and added acpi=off to the kernel line of menu.lst as advised elsewhere but that didn't change anything. I've never had to use acpi=off and in fact use acpid to shutdown from the power switch. BTW I removed the old macpup save file before I did any of this so it was a completely new frugal install from the CD.
Afraid I'm stuck now with no ideas.
Regards
Graham

Try using the "HOW TO" in this post , use ext 4 ,It's the same for usb or hdd.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=63350
Don't add any extra boot code until you try it this way and if you need it later use acpi=force
