@pemasu
1. Have you tested flashupdater?

2. It seems to install OK.
The installer says there's no item in the menus for this.
It appears in the PPM.
Appears in the dependency checker, with nothing missing.
But I cannot find it listed among all of the programs beginning with lower-case f in a terminal window.
What is the command to run it?

Re: whats this l5201101.043 file

eternal-sunshine wrote:Trivial point but when I did a frugal installation of lupu-520 (and spup 055) it makes an empty file eg l5201101.043 in the subdirectory.
Is this needed or is it something like to aid booting or recognise the version?
Hi. I'm also seeing the empty folder alongside my lupsave file. Running on Live CD, with a save file on hard disk. For what it's worth, also see this extra folder on Wary 5.0 on a USB stick.

5.2 is a marvel, however. I'm using it as a full time system, and could not be happier. Stable, elastic, forgiving, and interesting. Congrats to playdayz and the entire team behind this release.

Sylvander. About flashdownloader pet. The folder structure was wrong and also the .desktop file name was faulty. It had spaces in the name. Corrected now. Thank you or your report.

I should not make pets as tired. I uploaded the pet to the previous post.
I hope it works now :)
The mistakes was mine. Nothing to accuse about Menu Entry Maker :)
The pet installs dldflash scrict to the /usr/bin folder. You can launch it from the console by typing: #dldflash.

@pemasu
I installed flashupdater-002.pet
It installed OK.
Appeared in the Menu, PPM, check_dependencies.
Ran OK when I clicked on the Menu entry.
BUT...

When I clicked on the "Save" icon on the desktop...
And saved yet again at shut-down during re-boot...
Once back into lupu-520...
It would no longer run when I clicked on the Menu entry! :(

Uninstalled it by clicking on its entry in the lower pane of the PPM.
It uninstalled and disappeared from the PPM lower pane.
Had to "Ctrl+backspace" then xwin at the command promt to come back into the Puppy.
The flashupdater entry was then gone from the Menu.

Repeated all of this a 2nd time, and got the same result.

SSL support
How can I test that SSL support is working in 5.20 before I raise a problem to a site needing this (the site in question is gmail)
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

I doubt it's anything to do with grub4dos as I don't use it but I just installed lucid 250 and the strange empty folder doesn't appear but one called ATAHD does. So I agree it's likely that it was a woof issue perhaps to do with generating this file and is now fixed. Sorry to trouble you.

This is a good question. I hope someone can answer it. Entering 'ssl version' in a terminal shows that the programs are there and starting correctly, but that is not necessarily the same thing as "working."

The next version of luci-251 will have openssl 1.0 (unless something goes wrong) so it would be nice to be able to confirm correct operation.

I was just able to create and send and receive mail on a gmail account with the 251pre that will be luci-251 using sylpheed.

Muted Sound on lupu-520

#1052 Post by Sky Aisling »

@Playdayz,

I have successfully downloaded lupu-520 and burned a Live CD (twice) using the download from your initial post.
Lupu-520 ->
http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/lupu-520.iso
37a843833b65e8246bb08c2913b823a3 lupu-520.iso

Both CD's have muted sound.
Both CD's have Firefox 3.6.13 installed.
How do I fix the muted sound situation?
Looks like the last post was back in 2010.
Has there been a permanent fix created since then?

Here is my machine configuration:
Zareason Big Lap
3 gigs RAM
More specs here:

Thank you in advance of your reply

For some reason the post below did not fully post.
I found the solution to the muted sound.

I found *Retroval* by right clicking on the sound icon in the panel tray.
In *Retroval* I set the speaker volume to a higher volume.

I also ran the alsawizard and set the sound card choice to match my sound card.

This reference helped: http://diddywahdiddy.net/LupuNews/index4.html

*Retroval* fixed muted sound situation

#1053 Post by Sky Aisling »

Sorry about the blank text window above.
Don't know what happened. Text was entered. When I went into to *edit* the text was blanked.

I will try again...just to clarify for the next reader.

I too had the issue of muted sound on Playdayz download of Lucid Puppy 520 (as shown in first entry of this thread).
I solved it by right clicking on the sound icon in the launch panel and choosing *full window*.
*full window* opened *retroval*.
I boosted the *speaker* volume.
Sound is working well now.

jrb made an sfs of Google Earth 6. The sfs is at the address above and there is also a pet now in the puppy-lucid repo of PPM in Lucid 5.2.5

The pet -> http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... cid525.pet

Google Earth needs Xorg_High, ATI Catalyst or Nvidia graphics.

CUPS

#1055 Post by Volhout »

I have installed lucid 520 and the printer (CUPS) installed is a EPSON stylus rx420. In the CUPS menu I find a function to clean the print heads (nice) but no function to read the cartridge ink levels. Does anyone know how to fix this ??

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I get a warning (low ink level) on the printer itself, but have no idea which cartridge it is....

Volhout,

Hello...You might have luck searching the forum for threads specific to CUPS and Epson and 'ink levels'.

Here is a forum thread relating to Epson and ink levels that might be helpful:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61885

You can use *Google* for the search. And/or use the *search* feature of this forum. If you use *Google* be sure you put in 'Puppy Linux' somewhere.

Abiword

#1057 Post by Volhout »

I have 520 installed (full) and run Abiword as word processor.
I tried to set the language (Dutch) but it does not remember it. Every time I start it Abiword is in US english again.

Also..

I looked at the Abiword website to set the default save format to ".doc", and what I need to do is manually edit the system.profile (add DefaultSaveFormat=".doc"). But in the usr/share/abiword-2.8/ folder there are several profiles. I editted them all, and still Abiword does not use the .doc format as default.

It sounds to me that Abiword 2.8.6 is not configured right in Puppy 520.

Any thoughts ???

Is this a known bug ? Is it fixed in 525 ? (I am planning to upgrade anyway).

Volhout

--UPDATE-- Abiword (menu) language settings follow the Puppy language settings. Once I configured Puppy to Dutch, Abiword follows. But this does not resolve the problem with ".doc". And it does not allow to set the document language different from the language selected in Puppy.

AbiWord doesn't save in true ".doc" MS Word format.

http://www.abisource.com/wiki/Microsoft_Word_documents

If you wanting to go between Linux and MS Word I'd install OpenOffice/LibreOffice

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/LibreOffice

(Wine could be another option)

On my system, the .sfs version does not run because of a missing "libpulse.so.0", does anyone know how to get this?
LMMS is also in Puppy Package Manager.
I didn't find it, what's the exact name please?

hanzf, This might be it--it is libpulse anyway. LMMS is not really going to use pulse audio on Lucid, but it must have been compiled needing it. libpusle is in Three-headed Dog which is where I am now. so does lucid 5.2.8. You can look in /usr/lib and see if libpulse is already there. But if not, this pet will put it there.

LMMS is in Multimedia in PPM. Or should be ;-) Possibly you would need to start Quickpet -> More Pets -> Update Lupu PPM
