Could not find it in the 4.3 beta 1 package manager
Tried the program anyway and it ran but did not connect

(try:19) => `-'
Connecting to channel.sopcast.com|60.217.236.134|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (Connection reset by peer) in headers.
Retrying.

PS. UPDATE. It works. Here is a screenshot.
I found this info:
At least I see channels now with the .cn URL.If you have problem to update your channels in Sopcast Plaer (Ubuntu 9.X), you may try to change the default Channel Guide
from: http://www.sopcast.com/gchlxml
to: http://www.sopcast.cn/gchlxml or http://channel.sopcast.com/gchlxml
With kind regards,

qt4 and gth GUIs for sopcast
Dear Puppians,
I have compiled the latest qt4 and gtk guis for sopcast and made pets. Both pets contain a rather large commandline sp-sc/sp-sc-auth program, so that you don't have to install it separately. I changed the qt4 version source to reflect the correct channel list URL (initially hard-coded), and included config dirs in /root.
Please tell me whether these programs work for you. I am able to watch English-language films and National Geographic on the low-band Chinese channels. Have fun.
With kind regards,
vovchik

vovchik,
Thank you for this package. I wasn't able to get anything with the prior program tries earlier, even using the alternate inputs.
Tried recording which worked and saw the same video groups that you mentioned.
It's not likely to replace my television watching, but it is a great demonstration of p2p.
Regards,
s
(One small item, the .desktop file should read "exec=gsopcast" not qsopcast)

Dear seaside,
Thanks for the comments.
I uploaded a fixed version of gspocast. On my disk, the .desktop file seemed OK, but I could have made the change after the initial upload. I can't remember.
Although the Chinese list of URLs is not that great, there are several sites in the inet where sopcast URLs can be found - maybe even a better URL channel site. I am checking and If I find something I will post it. If you know of some useful URLs, let me know. The gsopcast gui lets you enter a URL, which you activate with the "Launch" button. I think qsopcast will also let you do that by entering the URL in the input box on top and by pressing the Launch button.
With kind regards,
vovchik

Dear Flash,
This link has the FAQ. It is a p2p method of watching TV or listening to radio via the inet. It is also free. http://www.sopcast.com/docs/.
If you have a lot of bandwidth, you also contribute to the "propagation" of the broadcast, so it becomes easier to watch for everybody. Occasionally you also get live sporting events.
There is a commandline program for Linux that sets up the p2p connection with the channel in question. The gui part is to grab a channel list and to launch a player for the selected channel.
Originally it was a Chinese service that required registration. No longer. It just requires the p2p software, which is on their site or at the sites their links point to.
With kind regards,
vovchik

Sorry to revive an old thread but ...
I am using 3.01 and am experimenting with sopcast.
I downloaded and installed qsopcast-0.3.6-qt4.pet but I get a string of missing dependencies.
1. Will this program run in 3.01 when the dependencies have been installed? Rather than going to the trouble of finding and installing them.
2. Does this program show H.264 streams - I have seen somewhere that sopcast 3.2.4 is needed?
3. If not, is there a pet of sopcast somewhere that will?
