Been using the excellent transmission lately.
In fact downloading 3 or 4 files simultaneously
When those files are uploading (seeding)
where are they kept during the transmission process?
The reason I ask is I notice my 'personal storage file' goes down to 0
and yet adding more storage and then rebooting and restarting transmission
and the same start to happen . . .
Should I right click and 'delete files and remove' in transmission? Will that remove any temp files downloaded?
Puppy seems to have created some files in /sys/block which I suspect may be from Transmission?
Any experts know if Transmission is trying to use ram as a hard disk?
Is Transmission hogging personal storage space?

hi lobster,,
the files uploading are the exact same file you are downloading. Have you checked in the preferences, to see that 'both' the download folder, and the incomplete folder are set out side the savefile? As it's easy to forget about the incomplete one.

Lobster. I have had several times the same problem. Download folder has been outside savefile. Still sometimes savefile is used up. And I havent find any files in savefile, which has taken up the space. I have tried commandline file listings with several +10 Mb - +100Mb settings. No clue.
You can check the contents of /root/.config/transmission. If you havent specified the download folder, you might find something inside that folder which takes space.
And this has happened with transmission only.
I have had to delete the used up savefile.

OK well then the files in the image are new . . . What are they are about?
I am quite sure the files is being downloaded to a hard disk partition
separate to the save file partition altogether.
What I was wondering is if the image is paused, then it would still be 'in bits' or packages from different seeders to be reassembled?
So where are these paused bits stored before reassembly?
My feeling is in the save file . . . but for Puppy they should be stored on HD, memory or a swap file? Some files are 2 gigs or more . . .
Yep that is exactly what happened to me. I want a refund! And this has happened with transmission only.

- or at least know what is taking up the space . . .
in the preferences, have you ticked the box ...."keep incomplete torrents in" and then designated a folder?

Oh I found some big onesThe Gdmap utility ought to be able to find the culprit files.
googleearth and google chrome (both programs I had uninstalled)
were also hanging around.
deleted these big files
including some in .folders (that is hidden folders which are preceded with a dot)
that can be as you know but others might not, 'revealed' by clicking on the eye symbol in rox . . .
However the disk usage icon bottom right
is still on yellow alert
I do remember there was some problem with this displaying the right info in Lucid but I thought this was solved
that is useful and a good plan for next timein the preferences, have you ticked the box ...."keep incomplete torrents in" and then designated a folder?
have changed the settings
Thanks guys . . . still wondering what is keeping my personal storage file so huge . . .
I have updated it twice and it is over 2 gig and I think Barry has mentioned it is not stable if over some size . . .
I think that the default place that transmission keeps it's incomplete files is in /root/downloads
a search of the 'file system' with 'searchmonkey' (had trouble with pfind) for will reveal any incomplete torrents. Note that even though the torrent is incomplete, that part file will still be the same size as the complete file. So even if you've only downloaded say 5mb's of a 200mb file, the incomplete .part file will still be 200mb

I've had the same problem... Gdmap showed me that files that Transmission had removed were moved into
/initrd/mnt/dev_save/.Trash_0/files. My save file was freed up once I deleted the contents of that directory.
BTW, shouldn't "emptying the Trash" resolve this?
