For frugal installation, four files from the ISO have been copied to a subdirectory on one partition (ext2 format). These files are:

initrd.gz / vmlinuz / wolfe_028.sfs / zw028341.sfs

The grub2 config file (under my main system linux mint) was then modified to boot wolfe.

My computer specifications:

Processor
Name AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
Family, model, stepping 6, 4, 4 (AMD Athlon (Thunderbird))
Cache Size 256kb
Frequency 1333.09MHz

Memory
Total Memory 515044 kB

VGA compatible controller ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]

I am not sure why it is not booting up right that is very close to the same as my wifes computer and hers booted up just fine from cd. The vesa is not a workiing part of the xorg only xserver.

Edit
Wanted to ask you to post your grub boot for MyWolfe for me and if not to much trouble can you burn a cd and boot from it to see if it is the boot sequence.

Acer Aspire One ZG5 160 Gig HD Model

#63 Post by rokytnji »

Used F2 then F3 at bootscreen and used

Code: Select all

puppy pmedia=usbflash
option as regular don't touch nothing gives tty job control turned off.

Looked for a md5sum for download. Could not find one in thread, MyWolfs links, or Well Minded Search. Just pointing this out. No biggy.

Checked bash version. Version 3.00. Wondering if I install this frugally on a 4 gig pendrive, if I can use Puppy 5.2 bash 4.1 pet at bottom of thread.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... ff695722dc I ask because I am not to schooled on what T2 base is compatible with. :oops: I will also want to run pianobar from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62581 . Will try in live session first with these to see if successful.

I also see that urxvt is being used in XFCE 4.8. I know I can use another terminal but was hoping xfce-terminal was being used. No biggy. Just a observation.

Tap isn't working , though settings>session and startup> Touchpad box is checked. Connected Wireless via BarryK connection Wizard.

That is it for a short Sunday Test. I will let this cool down as my Atheros wireless chip is flaky on this unit and disappears after this unit heats up. I usually run a USB Wireless G Pendrive as my Wifi Access anymore.

I like the Wolfs Howl and Default Wallpaper as I use it in AntiX also. Cool Beans MyWolf. :)

Created a 512MB save file Ext2 file system on USB Drive. Then booted up on My EEEPC 900. Just used puppy pmedia=usbflash again. Worked OK.

Going to use this rig to look for a libfaad.so pet. See if I can get piianobar going before messing with bash 4.

EDIT: Not looking good . Got libfaad.so from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=26202 and fixed previous error. Logged into my pandora account OK. But Get the same error I have gotten in Puppy Dingo 4 and ThinkLinux Puppy also

Sorry. This runs OK in Puppy 5.1 and 5.2 and MacPup Foxy 4.31. Don't shoot the messenger (just kidding). :lol:

Edit2: Another note. Internet connection dropped while editing my post. Same same happened on the Acer also. I did not think think much of this as I know the internal wireless on the Acer is flaky at best. This Asus is rock solid though. So just reporting that also.

thanks for you information on this and I do not think that bash-4.1 will be a problem. I too have had some problems with sns dropping out may have to get Jimimah wireless program and try it out. I will look at the other program and see if I can compile it for MyWolfe and get all the dependes worked out. As for Xfce terminal had it at one time did not find it all that interesting so did not include it will make a pet and upload it later ok.

edit

Here is a faad2 file I just compiled in MyWolfe-028 faad2-2.7.pet

And a pandora client please try I do not have an account Pianobar

any feed back will help

On My Desktop now

#67 Post by rokytnji »

:lol: Time to start over. I installed bash 4 pet. Urxvt would just crash after trying to open. So I tried opening pup package manager to uninstall pet.

Pup package manager would not open anymore either. So approaching problem with a shotgun I deleted my pupsave. Had to do a hard reset to shutdown after a ctrl+alt+backspace. Rebooted pendrive just now and am starting over. So bash 4 puppy 5.2 pet is not in the cards (as far as I can tell)

Edit: Booted up just fine after deleting personal save file. Connecting wireless this time with the other Network Manager. It stuck and connected on reboot. Thought you would like to know, Off to see what else I can break. :)

Edit2: Installed PupRadio via puppy package manager. Figured any streaming radio better than none at all. Using Bandit Station till things are sorted for pianobar. Entering pandora url in Pupradio and opening in Xine seems to do no good. Even after logging iinto Pandora and using url while music plays in browser. Tired and giving up for today. Thanks for listening GrumpyWolf.

Happy Trails, Rok

Nice try though. Which pet should I uninstall. The libfaad or pianobar? Or Both.

EDIT; any files you need me to open and look at will be no problem.

Hi GrumpyWolfe, the following is the script for use in updating grub2 config file:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
echo "Adding Wolfe028"
menuentry "Wolfe Puppy Linux 028" {
set root=(hd1,4)
linux /wolfe028/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=wolfe028
initrd /wolfe028/initrd.gz
}
I will burn a CD to boot wolfe and report the results here later.

Thanks!

Just uninstall the pandora client that one came from grit I have the latest stable will compile it and let you test ok. The code snip-it you post is pointing to libc and that is the libc-2.10.1 if you have a chance can you tell me what libc is used it the puplets that pandora does work.

songzi

Your boot script looked fine and you have booted other puplets so not sure what just yet. wait and see if cd works then go from there.

Just so we are synced o the same page.

se the first one you downloaded but uses this new faad2 lib. faad-2.7-V2-wolfe the one I compiles just keep giving me diffent error so tried the one you found and fixed the lib and now I too am listening to painobar and I like it.

I borked my personal save file again so am starting from scratch. I broke X experimenting with intel video driver seeing if I could get Opengl going.

So clean slate again. I should download the pianobar, (which I have done already and installed) ,link i your edited post a few posts above. Then use the libfaab ver. 2 , (which I downloaded and installed). For me the above combination still gives the seg fault. So. Should I grab the pianobar from
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62581

and use your libfaad ver.2? My other Puppies (playdayz version 5.2)sit on other IBM A22m Laptop. Just tell me where to look (file) for

you tell me what libc is used it the puplets that pandora does work.
Always willing to help. I use pianobar in AntiX also. Debian Testing always seems to have the latest libs. What I like about Puppy though is the Sherlock Holmes aspect of hunting and experimenting to get new applications to work.
Plus the drive mounters and # access of course besides the speed. After writing this. I will experiment again. I will uninstall your pianobar , try morgonzola version. If it works with that libfaad ver.2 you made. I will edit this post if it works.

Edit: Morgonzola pianobar and your libfaad 2.7 ver.2 gives me

Code: Select all

# pianobar
pianobar: error while loading shared libraries: libfaad.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
There is nothing about above error in /ver/log/message , Only messages in there is me reconnecting wireless every time it drops out. Which is also a recurring problem no matter which Network Connection Manager I use that is available to connect with. I know this is a common problem through out various Puppies. Any ways. No pianobar for me yet. Glad it works for you though.

Look in .packages file woof installed and look at glib package version

Did a search in Puppy package Manager for glib. It showed me glic-2.10.1 so I installed it. So below a picture gives a thousand words guess.

Edit: Found http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/glibc/ but I am afeared of breaking my install again. I am going to the store for chocolates and Valentines day card for the wife. I know how to back up personal pup save now after breaking MyWolf on a continual basis so I may just see what happens when I get back from the store.

Booted Up My LightHouse Puppy Laptop (Panasonic CF-48) Piano bar works in it also but with a older glibc so maybe there is a config error somewhere in MyWolf that keeps me from using Pianobar in it. I am thinking a totally starting from scratch and wiping the pendrive completely in case of that being a issue.

Never found a Md5sum for MyWolf so no way for me to check my downloaded Iso integrity either. Here is LightHouse readout.

If you notice in that thread, I get the same issue in MyWolf pendrive install. I am beginning to wonder if maybe the way certain Puppy linux releases are configured like a woof build or quirky build interferes with Pianobar running. Just a Bikers guess though. I have other Puppies on this Desktop. Older Ones like Original Bruno Pup and NOP. I am going check what happens with those. Weird.

Edit. Booted into Bruno Pup 4.31. Used your glibc-2.10.1 pet from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mywolf ... t/download and morgonzola pianobar pet.

Details on Big Mikes Bruno Pup are

Code: Select all

#One or more words that identify this distribution:
DISTRO_NAME='Puppy'
#A three-digit numeric value, version number of this distribution:
DISTRO_VERSION=431
#The distro whose binary packages were used to build this distribution:
DISTRO_BINARY_COMPAT='puppy'
#Prefix for some filenames: exs: pupsave.2fs, pup-431.sfs
DISTRO_FILE_PREFIX='pup'
#The version of the distro whose binary packages were used to build this distro:
DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION='4'
Pianobar works in this distro also. This is a frugal install on a IBM Desktop. Off to NOP Next. Fun and Games, Eh. :D

2nd Edit: Works in NOP 4.31 frugal also using same method I used in Bruno Pup.
Just posting all of this for info.

Sorry for my English.

In recent days I have wolfe with frugal installation.
Excellent job.
In hp laptop.
(all puppys work very well).
But with "shutdown" "reboot" "logout" or with ctrl+alt+backspace i have a flashing screen.

Also if there is a way to install vlc. (do not run any of those I tried).

thank you!

Did a quick manual frugal install of 028 on my old P4 test box....internet,sound and screen resolution were all working and correct on initial boot.No problems with shutdown or reboot. Actually, no real problems at all. :)

Ment to get back with you earlier about this do not install glib for MyWolfe already had glib-2.10.1 and it is a core file and things can for very wrong when messing with it. I will test with a fresh frugal install tomorrow and see why pianobar is not working in yours it may be something I have compile on my end that allowed mine to work.

"alfisti not sure about your flashing screen what video driver are you using"

intel card.

I got the file "logout" from a pyppy with xfce46 and changed the file in /usr/share/applications and closes properly (from menu).
