Can I remove this?

#23 Post by bones01 »

Hi Stu90,

I like the concept of what you've put together, and thought I'd give it a go, but when I went to change the desktop background, it just gave me a blank gray colour because of pwidgets not being there. I was quite happy not to have pwidgets up, but had to use it to add some colour to the screen.

Tried to uninstall through PPM, but still have all the settings there. Some of that is ok, but I'd like to go back to the standard icons on the ROX-file boxes.

What do I need to edit/delete to remove this and go back to the original settings?

Thanks.

Hello bones01
Im not sure i understand what you mean, puppy look doesn't use pwidgets
have you tried changing wallpaper through the default Nathan Wallpaper Setter? menu>desktop>desktop Settings

If its the menu icons/folder icons you mean you can change them with the default Desktop Icon Switcher. menu>desktop>desktop Settings
icon packs are located in /usr/local/lib/X11/themes
you can delete what you don't want/need puppy.look icons are the menu.token ones

If it is the 9 icons in the Rox-Filer toolbar (up,Home,Bookmarks,Rescan) etc you want to remove
then go to /root/ (you might need to show hidden files right click in Rox display>show hidden)
in /root/ folder
1.Delete .gtkrc2.0-mime file
2. Open .gtkrc.mime file with a text editor replace the text with:

Code: Select all

pixmap_path "/root/.icons/rox-toolbar/default/"

style "normal" {
  stock["gtk-close"] = {{"close.png"}}
  stock["gtk-go-up"] = {{"up.png"}}
  stock["gtk-home"] = {{"home.png"}}
  stock["gtk-refresh"] = {{"refresh.png"}}
  stock["gtk-zoom-in"] = {{"zoomin.png"}}
  stock["gtk-zoom-fit"] = {{"zoomout.png"}}
  stock["gtk-jump-to"] = {{"bookmarks.png"}}
  stock["gtk-sort-ascending"] = {{"sort.png"}}
  stock["gtk-help"] = {{"help.png"}}
  stock["rox-show-hidden"] = {{"hidden.png"}}
  stock["rox-show-details"] = {{"details.png"}}
  stock["rox-select"] = {{"select.png"}}
}

widget "*" style "normal"
and save

3. still in root go to the .icons folder and delete the rox-toolbar folder and the gtkrc.mime file next to it (again you might need to show hidden files right click in Rox display>show hidden )

dpup which is picky when it comes to gtk themes
If you comment out the gtk icon sizes in the themes gtkrc file.
most i found to work that way.

Thanks for the answers Stu. Made the changes and things are pretty much as I want them to be.

To your questions, I did use Nathan's Wallpaper Settings, but that wouldn't change the background without adding pwidgets.

Thanks for your help though.

:D Hello,
Zigbert,....DuDE,...Great work..I remember we discussed something along those lines like a year ago, around Puppy 4 era....So my question is, does it only work in certain series of Pups, ie 4.12 / 4.31, 5.0, 5.1...
Didnt a lot of hierarchy change at 4.31??
Ive been gone a while, so forgive me if I missed something...

Oh, and Rox would be a great addition to it, icing on the cake, so to speak...
I still think global theme management is the way to go... 8)

Hi stu90,

I stumbled upon this thread via the 253 thread and experimented with your eye candy pet.

Wow, what a difference it makes! You have done a superb job! Thanks.

As I was all excited I couldn't help myself and advertised your pet over at the German forum

Hope you don't mind.
