Quirky hardinfo sees sound card; Alsawizard does not |
|
This is not to continue the photo-thread ... but to point out that the audio adapter is clearly detectable by the hardware monitor, and yet the alsawizard can not find any audio card.
Please, anybody that has some idea as of what might be the problem, just through it in to see if I can do anything about it...
BTW, this is quirky 1.0 with the geode driver from Lupu (since BK did not update the driver in quirky and the one in the release does not work)

This could be similar to a bug that I have on my Aspire One with all of the recent woof-builds. My speaker volume is set to zero by default, even though the master volume is normal. Installing and running Retrovol lets me increase the speaker volume separately. You can get it here:

Absence of sound with 2.6.33.2 kernel |
|
Same problem here, absence of sound,
screencap
with a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card, on every Puppy that uses the 2.6.33.2 kernel.
I have tried it on Quirky's 018 and 020, Wary 019, and Lupu's 008 and 113, as well as on two Lupu's I woofbuilt myself.
The SB is seen and works OK in every earlier Puppy up to kernel 2.6.31.5, also works OK in a upup-452 I built with a 2.6.31.6-rt kernel.
lsmod in all cases shows the identical set of sound drivers loaded.
Ah, sweet mystery of life...
This belongs in the "Bugs" section.

I wish things where so simple
My case is a bit earlier. Alsawizard can not even find the cs5535audio adapter and alsactl init says "no soundcards found".
Anybody ever got audio in a Geode board and/or cs5535_gpio with puppy?

looks like that ALSAwizard needs sound as a module in the Kernel (?) to work.
So I did and now ALSA wizard works and reports everything is fine but no sound
dmesg however says
| Quote: | [ 554.236469] cs5535audio 0000:00:0f.3: setting latency timer to 64
[ 554.243623] Failure reading codec reg 0x7e,Last value=0x7e805368
[ 554.249827] Failure reading codec reg 0x7e,Last value=0x7e805368 |
Any idea what this might mean???

I wonder...could it be, that the ALSA codecs-set supplied with kernel 2.6.33.2 is corrupted?
Next week when I have time, probably Wednesday, I'm going to try recompiling kernel 2.6.33.2 with the ALSA codecs from 2.6.31.6 swapped-in, and see if that fixes it.

Lots and lots of problems here with sound.
Is it a simple hardware compatibility issue? Does Linux actually work with the sound card that you have even if ALSA wizard says it does? Is that the issue? Not sure.
