Lighthouse Pup 5.02 185M Subject description: Slack 13.1 JWM IceWM GIMP VirtualBox Wine | select SFS at boot: Xfce LO Mariner Compiz KDE4 |
|
Lighthouse Pup 5.02 base ISO and 5.02 Mariner ISO
_________________________________________
*** Please see a newer release, 5.03 at this link ***
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=499956#499956
_________________________________________
Highlights include
* PupControl, a full-featured control panel specifically designed for Puppy-based derivatives like Lighthouse.
* SFS copy2ram at first or any boot, with a brief prompt for full selection and configuration early in the boot process, prior to mounting the layered file system.
* If sufficient free RAM is detected, all core files and SFS add-ons can be copied to RAM. This means the Mariner ISO is now a true LiveCD with the add-ons Xfce, Mariner & LibreOffice SFS running in RAM at first boot.
* If any .sfs add-ons are found, before they are loaded, a brief prompt is offered to select and configure them. The SFS configuration allows you to choose which add-ons you'd like to use this session, and whether or not to copy them to RAM. Skip the prompt and use all SFS selected in prior configuration / BootManager / pre-selections from LiveCD.
* Available free RAM is recalculated after each copy2ram. If RAM is low, only SFS files that will safely fit in RAM will be copied and the rest will mount in place. This way all selected add-ons will be loaded, making maximum use of available RAM.
Release notes are at http://www.lhpup.org/release-lhp.htm
==Bugs==
Booting an encrypted save file gives erroneous error 'failed to mount' (actually does work, after the 60 sec pause.)
Fixed ISOs here. Or copy these files to your GRUB installation.
Download Lighthouse Pup 5.02 G
Graphics configuration
KMS*: automatic i915.modeset=1 for Intel graphics. video=800x600 when booting from CD.
*** If using GRUB bootloader ***
If boot and command line fonts are very small, add video=800x600 to the kernel line in your menu.lst. Sample menu.lst entry
If LHP boots to a blank screen when booting from a GRUB bootloader, please add xforcevesa nomodeset to the kernel line in your menu.lst.
(Booting from the CD does this by default, and using grubconfig in LHP to install GRUB also does.)

Hi TazOC, thanks for the new update.
Downloaded fine, does it work with KDE 4.4.4-G?
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,
You're welcome. Yes, 4-KDE-4.4.4-G.sfs works great here, even copied to RAM.

Hi TazOC,
I'm having problems with startup. The installation is on an ext4 partition. I get "Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format".
My menu.lst entry is unchanged from what worked with 5.00 G: I get the same error using the commented out code which worked with 5.0.0 G: Code: | # Linux bootable partition config begins
title Lighthouse 5.0.2 frugal in sdb2
rootnoverify (hd1,1)
kernel /lighthouse/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=lighthouse pfix=fsck pdev1=sdb2
#kernel /lighthouse/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=lighthouse pfix=fsck pdev1=sdb2 nomodeset
initrd /lighthouse/initrd.gz
# Linux bootable partition config ends | Clicking on "Click to verfiy-lhp" using Lucid 5.2 does nothing. Ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

Hmm, what is the o/p of: Code: | cd /mnt/sdb2/lighthouse
ls -Al | This is with the ISO mounted: Code: | <root> /mnt/virt-drive0

I see that there are size difference between my output and yours. Maybe I need to try a new download.
Thanks,

Hi Tazoc,
I'll try a new download.
Thanks,
Jim
EDIT: Problem was the download which I suspected considering the difference sizes between our files. Mariner download was also bad. I/m posting from LHP now and it looks good so far including KDE4.
Thanks,
Jim

I installed the new lhp and loaded the devx, kernel source sfs, then installed
the ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64.run driver.
bash-4.1# glxgears
19091 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3818.033 FPS
19415 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3882.822 FPS
19423 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3884.449 FPS
19418 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3883.524 FPS
19428 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3885.551 FPS
<root> ~
There is a lot to try out but it's looking good so far, amazing in fact
Edit:
I installed lhp 502 to a pc with an nvidia graphics card and installed
the devx, kernel source sfs, and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.29.run driver.
I had to go into the sbin directory and rename depmod to depmodold and
depmod-FULL to depmod before exiting to the prompt and running the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.29.run driver.
I had problems getting the correct resolution but I messed around
until I got it
6840 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1367.876 FPS
7194 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1438.715 FPS
7238 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1447.441 FPS
10134 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2026.748 FPS
10622 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2124.340 FPS

Hi Tazoc,
Rick's done it to you again, your installer is off. His version is now setup982.exe. I didn't even know that it had gotten to 981, his updates are more frequent than they used to be.
Cheers,
Jim

e-Sword Installer updated |
|
Hi Jim,
Yes, you're right, try it now. 9.7.2 still works in LHP 5.00 G. 9.8.2 for 5.02 should d/l OK now, though I had to install twice before it worked; I will do some more testing tomorrow to see if the free space check needs to be adjusted up. There's a new e-Sword feature now to d/l and track add-ons within e-Sword, but I haven't been able to get it working in Wine.
Thanks,
TazOC
