Dead Links Thread

#1 Post by Aitch »

DEAD LINKS:

OK, guys...I've finally got fed up!!

There are dead links all over the forum, a lot due to web sites disappearing, [Puppy.ca/asia] going out of date, [many old forum updates] posts to temporary upload sites, [far too many unmirrored/unmaintained] etc, etc... I'm sure you know some...?

So, what I propose is...

If you get directed to/find a Dead Link, PLEASE post it here, stating:

1) What you were looking for,
2) Which thread you found the dead link in,
3) The date of the link/date you looked, and
4) Whether you searched elsewhere/already for the link

Unless you have a better idea....?

As an example

666philb posted here Jan 12th 2011, asking for help to install Adobe Air

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 824#485824

scsijohn posted a link 14th Jan 2011, which lead here, dated April 09

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40748

which dead ends, also April 09 here, to an undated Adobe blogs site...?

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40687

Unless Mark/MU would care to come back on it...?

I added a link here

http://blogs.adobe.com/air/2008/12/tips ... ation.html

get the picture....?

Your links/solutions if you have them, please

thanks

Aitch :)

ttuuxxx's libs sticky

#4 Post by 666philb »

Quite an important one, ttuuxxx's Libs sticky in the additional software thread. I get a 404 not found.

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=24599

P.s. Thankyou Aitch! for replying to my adobe air post. I'm going to psych myself up and have another go at it later in the week. I have also sent MU a PM asking for help with it....as it seems he's the only person to have ever got it to work!

Hmm, maybe links have a half-life? How long before half of a random collection of links go dead? Is it a fairly invariable time, on average?

all the libs can be found in one file located at http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/other/L ... -links.tar
it would be best if someone could host it and expand it into a directory so individual libs could be downloaded
ttuuxxx
http://audio.online-convert.com/ <-- excellent site
http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/A-codecs/ <-- Codec Test Files
http://html5games.com/ <-- excellent HTML5 games :)

I recall that some time in the past that the average lifetime of a website was estimated at about 3 weeks...

Given that some sites are around for years, many of them must disappear in days or hours (spammer sites?...)

maybe these would be useful sites, to mirror puppy files - maybe setup a/multiple Puppy user account/s?

http://www.mediafire.com/

http://www.megaupload.com/

Any thoughts anyone?

Conky 1.7.1.1

#14 Post by rokytnji »

Wolfpups 2007 thread at

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=23280

Dead links are

http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/bugs/conky-1.7.1.1.pet

http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/bugs/libxcb-1.0.pet

libidn-0.6.10.pet
Not Found

The requested URL /tpp/bugs/libxcb-1.0.pet was not found on this server.
At least for me on Firefox 3.6.13

Edit: eeerrrr which kinda makes this thread below kinda moot also (just the links in it)

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 66e31e1781

eeeerrrrr 2nd Edit: I grabbed the files from

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 51&t=48725

which is aragons thread. Maybe the wiki should be updated

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/ConkyMonitor

Sorry. Got what I wanted working (MacPUP Foxy 3 based on Puppy 4.31) from aragons thread.

Possible other location for ttuuxxx's lib archive: http://brainwavedesigncentral.net/mike/ ... -ttuxxx%2F

There's also an archive of a number of Wolf Pup's .pets there:
