This is the final in this series!
Thanks to all the followers and contributors in this series.
There are a few bugs fixed and hopefully this one will run on a bit more hardware thanks to rerwin and BK. I'll shutup now and let the iso do the talking
***********************************************************
News Flash
I have made a new spup-100BABY.iso 101M, also has a zdrv, see down page
***********************************************************
Cheers and enjoy!
ATI users.. if you have problems in console (outside of X) you may need to boot with modeset=0 either added as a boot param after pfix=ram or on your grub kernel line. I had to revert to the old way.. 2 out of 3 user's can't be wrong! (yarddog, your the 2nd, playdayz is the 3rd!)
See the delta folder down page for a delta from 099 to 100
See the changelog down the page
Note: It is recommended to use the "Upgrade X Drivers" button from the Setup icon for nvidia drivers, I have removed the nvidia-xconfig and now you must use xorgwizard, it is more reliable, and you should then have glxgears working out of the box.
spupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspupspup
This is basically a plain spup not much different to the spup-040 that Barry posted some months ago, but it does have some important differences.
There isn't anything fancy here. The main iso is 117MB. The kernel is the same as spup-040 (k2.6.34.1 smp.. ie for multi processors, but also runs fine on uniprocessors). Nouveau video driver (open source nvidia effort) is removed. It's way too buggy. Nv works just fine. Proprietary nvidia drivers are in PPM, also ATI. Mesa is available for other chipsets. (intel, SiS, older Radeons etc)
Hungry for some spup?
The Meat and Potatoes
So now you need something to chew on.. here it is:

BABY STUFF
http://www.brainwavedesigncentral.net/m ... 0-BABY.iso 101MB (less drivers, no flash)
http://www.brainwavedesigncentral.net/m ... 100341.sfs 17MB (the Z drive with the drivers 'n' stuff)

sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Extras
Programs
Check the PPM!
Can't find it? Try a search of the PPM, you can use wildcards before and after your package name. ie the * (asterisk)
There isn't a lot there yet but the way Billtoo and ttuuxx are compiling stuff it should be very healthy soon!
Drivers
Check the Update X Drivers button in the Puppy Setup program (wizard wizard). It supports Mesa (Dri) and Latish model Nvidia cards. Can someone help with an ATI driver please (ati is done thx playdayz), or even Intel?

Woof Spup Tutorial
(updated 20110312.. um today!)
Just a small tut I wrote that may or may not help followers build their own Spup!

puppuppuppuppuppuppupppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppuppup
So what now?
Report bugs! I'll be updating this woofly... that is, when a new woof is announced I'll update, taking into consideration bug reports, so keep them accurate so we can fix them .
All package compilers are most welcome.
Mission statement: Track and improve woof where we can! All makes for a better Puppy in the end, no matter the flavour.
Cheers

works for me
Surprised your new 'different distro' quickpet was unavailable?
Seems quicker than Upup (eg Lucid)
Good to have Seamonkey built into that 116MB
One major problem - colour display is muted and washed out
there was a solution to this with a previous spup but I forget what it was - maybe a different graphic driver . . .
I need to stick with Lucid for now, so will not use further
but well done Mick - Slackware fans will be pleased

Live pfix=ram in the main Linux box.On boot had working sound and internet as well as the correct 1440x900 resolution. The default "nv" driver seems to be working fine with this old Nvidia card.

Frugal install to a desktop computer.
Sound required turning up from 'Retrovol' but now remembers at each boot.
Installed Nvidia drivers,working well.
Seem to have a problem when adding icewm from ppm.Jwm and icewm both feature in 'WM Switcher' but so far I've not been able to change them and have to exit to prompt to do this.
My 'Help'icon has vanished from the desktop, though not sure at what point this occurred or why.Possibly when installing 'pwidgets-2.3.0',from my collection of .pets.'Cpu_bar',incidentally shows both cores of my P4,never seen that before in any Puppy!!
Nice to have Seamonkey browser as default and Xchat already hooked up to #puppylinux channel.
I also added 'Opera 10.63'from ppm but it complains about missing libs.
Pidgin 2.7.7 works fine along with added Facebook libs.
Looking good so far thanks

Went ahead and did a manual frugal install on the old P3 test box. Initial boot had working sound and the correct 1024x768 resolution......but no internet. A quick run through the Network Wizard took care of that.
Everything has survived a couple of reboots.

Hi,
I am trying it on a rewritable DVD and set-up was smooth as silk and the look and feel is excellent.
For now my only new installation is Htop which shows under System, but it has no icon and does not load from the menu.
Htop works from the console and is of this moment reporting RAM usage of 73 MB with SeaMonkey active to post this message.
Presumably SFS usage is by itself greater than 73 MB; so it would seem helpfull if spup could be one of the first Puppies, to fix what seems to be a significant Puppy defect in the reporting of RAM usage (or availability).
I like the similarities with Lupu and I hope to devote time to learn about the differences.
Congratulations on this Puppy Award Winner (PAW).
My regards

Nice work! Good to see someone pick up slackpup.
Some problems:
1. gnome-mplayer doesn't work fullscreen in JWM. Works fine in openbox.
2. I closed my laptop, and came back. It came up and switched between the desktop and a tty, then suspended again. Had to cycle the power.
EDIT: It does freak out like this, but afterwards the power button will un-suspend it successfully (or reboot if I hold it too long:/ ).
I'm using a frugal install. PCM volume started low for me too. Help button is intact. Wi-fi and video worked great.
Everyone seems to be doing this, so here goes:

Some problems:
1. gnome-mplayer doesn't work fullscreen in JWM. Works fine in openbox.
2. I closed my laptop, and came back. It came up and switched between the desktop and a tty, then suspended again. Had to cycle the power.
EDIT: It does freak out like this, but afterwards the power button will un-suspend it successfully (or reboot if I hold it too long:/ ).
I'm using a frugal install. PCM volume started low for me too. Help button is intact. Wi-fi and video worked great.
Everyone seems to be doing this, so here goes:

manual frugal with menu.lst
seems to be something wrong with the letters. this stays the same when moved about the screen. same happens with the lettering during wifi connect.
edit: seems that a and r are affected but not always.
is the desktop image of the great divide symbolic?
sns still doesn't tell you if it is wep or wpa so you have to guess and not make a mistake when you enter the password.
good that no partitions are mounted by default.
edit first boot was defaults with x24
second boot exactly the same as the first (ie. no pupsave) except oz ingerlish chosen and then the letters are ok.
Code: Select all
title spup051
root (hd1,0)
kernel /spup051/vmlinuz pfix=copy phome=spup051 psubdir=spup051 pfix=fsck
initrd /spup051/initrd.gz

The times are ok,it's in 12hr clock mode.aarf wrote:erm, the time is wrong. My time doesnt say that at all. Ah the second one is too difficult.Brown Mouse wrote:Spot the two errors
edit oh i see it now two wrong times so two errors, how could i miss that
by the way i think you might have a faulty install because the time is ok on mine.
Ok aarf.. the pattern seems to be bold lowercase letters 'r' and 'a'. Is it the same if they are not bold? Bold usally occers in Rox when the files are new. If you change the gtk theme is it still the same? Does it occur in anything else apart from Rox? Yes, yes, lots of questions but I don't seem to have the issue. I installed opera-11beta too.
Barry's app, guess it should be mentioned. (re sns)
Cheers
