FBPanel behaviour.

#1981 Post by Béèm »

FBPanel behavior.
Not necessarily a 240 issue.

When the system tray is at the bottom, a maximized program doesn't cover the tray.

As I like the tray at the left-side horizontally, I configured FBpanel so.
But the tray covers a maximized application. And some menu options can't be clicked then.

So I thought I was clever in making the tray hide, unless the mouse hovers over it.
But that doesn't work equally, as when the mouse is near the tray position (I would say if the mouse is 1 1/2 times the width of the tray), so still inside the application window, the tray pops-up, preventing equally to select menu items again.

I looked at the options for FBpanel, but fail to see that I can change the configuration to avoid this situation.

The only solution I see is, that the tray pops-up when the cursor hits the edge of the screen.
I don't know if it is possible to implement this.

I guess the readers here are interested in NLS and what is 'NLS ready' i say, no?
Well that was my opinion also to continue to post here.
So I'll continue to raise the 'issue' here.

ABIword with a picture (logo)

#1983 Post by Béèm »

ABIword with a picture (logo)
Mostly the first thing I do in a fresh install (like here in 240) is to set open with to soffice, so I can open a .doc in OOo.
This time I forgot and clicking on a .doc opened it with ABIword.
The first thing in the doc is a picture (logo), but it did display as a compressed line.
Opening the .doc with OOo, the logo was displayed correctly.

I don't know if this issue with ABIword is new in the 240 or if it already was there before.
Altho I don't use ABIword, I thought it was good to report.

.
1)Check size of panel in pixels using extra configuration options
<ctrl> <right click> on panel.
2)Reserve leftmost portion of screen for FBpanel
Menu option Desktop>Desktop settings>Openbox Window manager config>Margins
Set the left margin to appropriate number of pixels.

Hope that works.

Thanks for the tips.
I saw that margins thing in Openbox WM, but didn't get what it did and didn't dare to change.
That's a way of solving it.

I visited again the ctrl-r-click on the panel and selected the autohide again after having put the left margin at 0 again.
I set the hide when hidden at 0 and for a while this worked.

But all of a sudden it didn't work anymore.

Now I did set the height at 1 pixel.
This seams to work, accept that the panel pops up when I am at some 25 pixels from the top left corner.

So I think something may go wrong in case of the panel at the left.

I'll see and when I have problems again, I redo the margin setting of the Openbox WM.

Another question.
I didn't find how to change the size of the digital clock digits.
Can this be done?

Problems with Geany and Samba shares have been reported before. I get different behaviours with Geany depending on whether the share is in Windows or Linux.

However, leafpad always works. Instead of pnethood, I use samba-login from the samba-TNG-client package.

Lucid Puppy 5.2 Base Luci-240 New Version NOV 28

Midnight Commander is a powerful file manager, it creates an entry in
the Filesystem>Filemanagers section of the puppy menu.

It is similar to Norton Commander.

Nice packaging job, :) Next time please make 2 packages, one for the application and the other for the locales, It can reduce the size by almost 50% for regular English users, also add or delete the man files NLS package.

Still having problems on K6 2

#1992 Post by Jades »

I've tried Abiword, Geany and GNUmeric again on Luci 241 (LiveCD with Pupsave) and they're still not working on Zhaan, my K6 2 500 machine. Trying to launch them from the console gives an Illegal Instruction error. Might the problem be that the new versions aren't compatible with K6 CPUs? The last version of Puppy they worked in was Lucid 5.1.1.

HardInfo report for Zhaan can be found at http://www.jades.org/comps/hir_zhn_luci241_od.html. Sound chipset is actually onboard Creative ES1373.

Not noticed any problems on Merlin, which leads me to suspect something hardware related.

Today I'll finally get round to transfering the 80GB drive to Zhaan, and will be partitioning it. Might even try a Full Install of Puppy (probably 5.1.1, and doing Luci as a Frugal). Wish me luck!
Zhaan - AMD K6 2 500, 512MB RAM, ATI Rage 128 VR. Full install Wary 5.5 HardInfo Report
Merlin - Core i5-4590, 8GB RAM, Radeon R9 270X. Slacko 5.7.0

Would anyone freak out completely if we did not include Openbox (except in the PPM)? The problems with jwm have all basically been solved.

I think that is very likely. Is is not anything we did (purposefully anyway) but it might well have been something Ubuntu did, We have updated numerous components from the Lucid version to the Maverick version and one of those could be the reason..

If the main sfs is NLS ready, we can take the strategy:
(main sfs) + (adddional NLS pet or sfs)

But the main sfs is not NLS ready, we need to replace something in the main sfs.
(main sfs) + (replace the components to be NLS ready) + (adddional NLS pet or sfs)
shinobar, I need detailed instructions. I know that what we want to do is to replace 'utf8' with UTF-8'. I also know or think I know that it is in rc.country and countrywizard.qs that we need to make the replacements. Can I just search and replace very instance of 'utf8' in those two files? I know you have given those instructions in a pm, but unfortunately I didn't get them all. Thank you.

In the JWM configuration manager
When you select "or apply current GTK theme to JWM" Is the problem of the tray being removed fixed?

Htop is a process viewer, it creates an entry in the System>System

No. Now it just does nothing, which is at least not catastrophic. Cant we just hide it as an option :)

you are pulling my leg?
Now that I am very slowly getting a grip on it (openbox/FBpanel)?
Seriously now, I prefer JWM, but I wished I could configure it to have the tray at the left side.

What do you mean? A vertical tray down the laft side of the screen?
