From my frugal install of 141 Partview appears to be reporting the correct amount of free space.I'll check the other installs a bit later.

There ia a newer Partview Barry is using in Quirky/Wary. I'll dig it up and see if the feature of the version and info can be added.

I hurried the luci-241 because of the sound issue. Sorry.

Just wondering why none of my packages were included, same thing ? or just for repo?
ttuuxxx
Both. Good programs in Puppy Package Manager is a feature of Lucid. But I just had this idea. What if we put a bunch of your programs in an sfs so that a user could one-click download the sfs from Quickpet and have the "full ttuuxxx experience." We would name the sfs "ttuuxxx's favorites" or something like that, or "ttuuxxs's best utilities." And ttuuxxx fans could install all of them with one-click, without using up any of the pup_save memory. I think there are plenty of people who would do that. What do you think? It would be like a personality module to give Lucid a ttuuxxx flavor ;-) . (We would put them also in PPM individually.)

We would use this as a feature in promoting Lucid.

I can't remember who had the project of a module to convert Lucid to a Macpup. It would work for that too.

And shinobar, maybe you would like to make one also. You might have given me the idea with the seamonkey-flashplayer-jre you built.

Ok, here's the later Partview with the version info added as a splash screen instead of in the gui. It uses glade so I didn't want to hack (er don't know much about glade anyway  ).

Note the small gui starts off showing your /mnt/home drive then you click "all drives" for a full report.

Cheers

Almost every day new post comes in this Forum on installation problem.
A typical story:

Again, I'd like to say: Who can manage with the 'Universal Installer' and 'Grub config'?
Well, shinobar, all of us can manage with the Universal Installer and grub config. We have learned what to do. But you make a good point. It is hardly intuitive about running grub config and then properly creating menu.lst.
And the name of 'Grub4Dos' is somewhat confusing. The 'Grub4Dos' is actually 'Grab NOT ONLY for dos'.
The 'Grub4Dos config' is the killer. It is upper compatible with legacy grub.
It does not depend on whether the user has Windows or not.
I agree with you about the name Grub4dos. I would like to test something called "Universal Installer - Automatic" that would use grub4dos. Is that about what you have prepared at the link? Could you let me know please? Thank you.

We would also keep "Universal Installer - Manual" (just in case).

Here's a "vidmode.sh" for you. Make sure to have all the NVIDIA .pet's call it after installing.

Code:
mv /root/.mplayer/config /root/.mplayer/config.bak
cat /root/.mplayer/config.bak | sed s/'x11'/'xv'/g > /root/.mplayer/config
gabe, Is not the problem only with the nv driver--the nvidia pets install the nvidia driver--that can use Xv I would think, but I don;t know for sure. To use this idea I *think* we would have to grep for the nv driver--but would it slow things down too much to do it every time.

I was sure that on earlier releases that the sound worked.
I just didn't notice it lately.

The world is changing ...and it ain't all for the good.

Why pay Telstra etc...here in Australia.

Security is now seen as more of an issue.
Even around me now....all the wireless is secured.
Not like years ago.
If the dummies haven't wised up....hardware suppliers have.

Higher Encrytion is needed.

Yes people can be hacked but do we advertise that
" Hey! Want to be hacked...use Puppy "

because it's too freaking hard to add Pwireless 2.

So that after all the thought and vision, the hardships, the fixes,
the arguments, the endless testing and the fellowship that exists on
this great forum, ( although not from me )...
will it be too much too expect that Wireless works in this day and age.

That people can actually connect when there is an easy way to do it.
That if users want more security...such as mine
WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)

Lucid delivers the goodies.

Yeah! I'm being a shite...
but either fix up your network wizards
to enable more serviceable protection or add Pwireless2
as a third option.

Talking of security I reposted this yesterday.
Encryption won't stop this....but it's scary.

A personal favorites package would be a great idea for existing puppy fans! Unfortunately, not so much for newbies (or new adopters).

Imagine somebody loading up a desktop and being prompted to install a "ttuuxxx personality module."

I have tested with a newer NVIDIA card and latest driver, and Xv does in fact work. It works on an older NVIDIA card, too. My apologies for misunderstanding.

I now understand it that "plain" installs without extended nv driver support experience playback issues with Xv. Question: what driver do Xorg_high-capable systems use before they install Xorg_high? I'm sorry I can't check this (seemingly simple) thing right now.

While grep is very fast, even on dated hardware and slow hard drives (full install), I agree that repeated calls are a bit obnoxious. I then propose the reverse to my earlier suggestion: Leave video mode X11. When the user installs any driver pack, the script should run to replace X11 with Xv. "High performance drivers" should trigger the high performance video mode (Xv), and low-performance drivers should default to failsafe video mode (X11). That's how puppy was intended in the first place. (Of course, on a philosophical level, it also makes sense to default to the most supported framework and let the user build up if he likes -- in this case, selecting a high performance driver, which would trigger Xv at install).

One of these days I'll have a look at why gnome-mplayer seems to fail when the mode is left blank (default), since some people have reported that. Obviously, the optimal solution is to let the player decide after exhausting the better option, as vlc (or other mplayer builds) already do.

I wanted to open a tar.xz source file and well puppy 5.2 doesn't open that format, Kind of a shame because that's where the future of source packages are heading. So I compiled the latest 7zip, I notice in the xarchive wrappers that there's a 7zip wrapper but nothing to link it in the /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/MIME-types/ folder so it wouldn't work anyways without it.
So then I made for for 7z and xz.
then I copied the 7zip wrapper and made it work for xz.
basically if you install this package you can extract 7z and tar.xz packages with xarchive
ttuuxxx

Ps probably a lot more extensions could be added but this is a start anyways

High compression ratio in 7z format with LZMA and LZMA2 compression
Supported formats:

Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.

It looks like Meaty is now a possibility . . . :)
http://pupweb.org/wikka/MeatyInfo

2.03 of Puppy (an official release) was 160MB
and did not implement any of Meaty
(it was in effect a translation of Hacao Puppy)

We now have in 5.2

Core (from Barry)
Community (working together and supporting 5.2)
Customisation (this hopefully will evolve now and in the post 5.2 arena)

Will customisation center around personality or theme
or both?.
For example I may issue a Tmxxine SFS for time travelers
- which may include talking Lobsters  .
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=57076

The ideal might be Graphics SFS, Multimedia SFS,
Games SFS etc

just updated the 7zip package above now xarchive can extract jar and xpi files also, great if your working on mozilla based software or java in general.
saves renaming jar-zip and then extracting, same with xpi, heck probably don't even need 7 zip for those 2, maybe just a wrapper.

Hi playdayz if you add only this to the iso, then puppy can open 2 more formats without any extra deps/libs Xpi and Jar.
Just basic wrappers.

Proposed 'driver help' html page in Quickpet

http://users.tpg.com.au/01micko//driverhelp.htm

Please take a look, especially ATI guys, I don't have one so don't know if the instructions work.

Anyone feel free to edit this page and if you can't host just tar up a file and I'll host for people to look at. Remember, it doesn't need to be pretty, it's a help document, included in the quickpet package, so if you want to put in pics they have to be really tiny (byte wise  )

Here's a little script that extract tar.bz2 packages in the same directory. Why not use xarchive for that? you might be thinking.
I've stated in the past a few times that Xarchive does a terrible job at extracting large tar.bz2 files like Seamokey sources, It can take aroun 30+ mins to extract. I usually use fileroller which doesn't have this issue, anyways this will extract the Seamonkey source files in about 1Min flat. Hows that, 30 times quicker
ps
Actually I find it strange that puppy developers never made a archive script to relace xarchive before, really If a file selector with open and save was added, it could be a start to a fast lightweight archiver.
