Brazilian PuppyBR Linux 1.08 released

#1 Post by baciotti »

Hi!

I'm working with Puppy for three weeks and here in my office, my five computers are now runnin Puppy! I was using Ubuntu...

People were amazed with the speed that Mozilla, Abiword and other programs are openning! And als with the speed the computer is booted (25 seconds here with 700Mhz and 256Mb Ram machine)

So, I began to translate menus, locale, some applications and change a little other like using firefox in place of Mozilla.

Then a distro is created! PuppyBR !!

Site: http://www.puppybr.1zz.org
Iso: http://www.puppybr.1zz.org/baixar.php (just a script to count how many downloads. Its direct to the file!) 75,9MB
Forum: http://www.baciotti.com/forum

I also created some other things, that I will put here as soon as i make a pup package (and learn how to make it first ;-) ):

* Vim 6.4
* xterm (so I can use utf-8)
* xmail (I learned here in forum, to send emails using a bash script)
* acerta_hora.sh (a script to update the date and time, using wget. I dont remenber where i get it)

Thank You very much!!

Here are 2 tools, that might make updates easier:

Translate jwm-menu:

Hey, congratulations!

People will be interested not only in your PuppyBR but also in how you did it. Hope you can have that story somewhere. You may want to put some info here:

First off, congratulations and good luck with the project. Second, I'm very interested in an xmail package. Getting smtp working in Puppy has been on my todo list for a long time.
