I've noticed from some of the forum responses that certain computer brands may have more problems than others. Are there any desktop / laptop brands that are more compatible with linux/puppy than others? Any that you would be willing to either recommend to a linux newbie?; or to avoid?

I can recommend building your own computer from parts you buy at Fry's for instance, though I'm sure it would work as well no matter where you bought the parts. The main issues seem to be with the chipset on the motherboard and the BIOS, also on the motherboard, and the do-it-yourself motherboards I've tried work fine with Linux.

As for laptops, I don't have any idea; they are mighty queer ducks in my opinion. Laughing

I tend to stick with the VIA Mini-ITX boards. They work well with Puppy. Many other motherboards use the same chipsets as the VIA boards and should work well too.
