Live pfix=ram again. Clicked OK,waited until Firstrun dialog went away, moused over Help message and Midori opened and immediately crashed.

EDIT:
Repeated above steps to verify..........same results.Midori crashed immediately.

So this morning I spent 20 minutes on my netbook....failure.
Sees the Atheros wireles...no connection.

My Netgear router uses a hidden wireless network.
The name is split............. and I have 15 keys

and >> WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)

No way will it connect on my
Acer 10" Netbook with wireles >> hidden network

cthisbear, Sorry it happened. This is one of the many things I know nothing about, except to ask, which wireless program were you using, Barry's SNS or Dougal's Wizard?

" Barry's SNS or Dougal's Wizard? "

Both.
Hey mate....you are nearly there.
An excellent Pup. I realise the work that everyone puts in.

So I'm not ungrateful...just angry...ha! ha!
I think that I'll ring up micko and give him a blast.
Feeling better already.

" This is one of the many things I know nothing about "
Yes not my strong point either playdayz but I gave it a
really good go.

Perhaps jemimah can give you some hints.

I have already asked her Wink

But I can ask you something: Were you using the program pwireless2 on fluppy?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It definitely appears that it is Puppy Package Manager that is *unsetting my localization."

Wireless connection drops after about 10 minutes of inactivity.
Tried on 2 different laptops, live cd, frugal, or full.
Tried sns and classic wizard.

Only a lupu-luci problem.
The wireless crashes on both of my laptops, but not on the
desktop.......very strange.

I have pwireless2 on a Lupu501 install.
I have to start pwireless when I boot into it, but it doesn't drop
the connection during use.

My Wary and 4.xx installs have no problems

edit;
Pc loses connection also.

Still more testing on the dreaded crashing Midori. Laughing

Luci-235 live pfix=ram on another different computer and different widescreen LCD. Initial boot had the correct 1440x900/60HZ resolution and Midori was fine.....no crashes or even a hiccup. Laughing Just changed my timezone and everything's good.

Correct resolution on boot.......no crash. Incorrect resolution....Midori crashes.

Using an old Nvidia MX4000 on this box,just running the default driver.

Whenever using a bit torrent, I can never get Pctorrent to work and always have to download 'Transmission'

This might be an option which I saw in another thread
http://www.bitlet.org/

Iguleder uses several such cloud features in Squeeze
The only one I can remember is the IRC client . . .
. . . anyway just an idea Smile

i havent ever managed to get pctorrent to work for download. I install always transmission, it works fine all the time. Well nowadays i dont even try anymore. Just one useless app in menu.

Now that ayttm problem with crashing hyperlinks is fixed with pidgin, pctorrent should be considered for replace also. Not with better but with working app Smile

shinobar, playdayz

Something occurred to me.. doesn't the timezone app use LANG="C" ??? If so then that would cause the Quickpet error.. if not we are back at square one! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Edit
/usr/sbin/timezone-set
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#(c) Copyright Barry Kauler 2007 www.puppylinux.com
#2007 Lesser GPL licence v2 (http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/lgpl.html)
#utility to select the timezone.
#Note, as Puppy will mostly be on PCs coexisting with Windows,
#hardware clock (CMOS) is set to local time (see /etc/rc.d/rc.local0)
#BK oct2007: updated for 3.02
#w019 april 2009: cli mode so can run from /etc/rc.d/rc.update

export LANG=C

XSTATUS="no"
[ -z $DISPLAY ] || XSTATUS="yes"
[ $1 ] && XSTATUS="no"

if [ -e /etc/localtime ];then
 CZONE="`readlink /etc/localtime`"
 [ "$CZONE" = "" ] && rm -f /etc/localtime
fi
[snip]

LINE 10: export LANG=C

I think that confirms my hypothesis ...does it now become a theory? [ Laughing ]

Ok, if so what is the get -around? Also, why is it even there? I know Barry likes using LANG="C" for speed.. but is this script really that slow?

Why don't you include Transmission? In Squeeze I think I squeezed it somewhere in the 3-digit range (in KBs, yep?), not sure about the numbers. I just remember I got it really small.

If you have Pidgin already, Transmission must join the party. These two are the first applications I install on any distro. I use them since my first day on Linux and got familiar with them when I was young and used Windows. Laughing

And regarding the IRC client, I made a small xchat PET that auto-connects to #puppylinux. Bigger than ayttm but works. Wink

I can make PETs for both if you want them for 5.2 ... and I also have a hacked Uget, a hacked DeaDBeeF (200 KB!) and other goodies I can share.

That's probably it.
Took about a minute but it connected.

Just booted it as I type....great.

Hey! don't thank me.
My abuse is given out freely here.

Obviously if I ever released a Puppy....
it would have to be named >> Mongrel Pup.

aka Spike.

Interesting...

tubby.

" If you still want to try your wifi,

look at /etc/init.d/ open rc.pcmcia as text

and remove the two hashes at the front of these lines

#echo "Starting PCMCIA services:"
#pcmcia-socket-startup

save and reboot and with a bit of luck you should be able to connect,
i am assuming you have a save file or a full install.

You can always put them back if it does not work. "

@abushcrafter
Applied your Rox-FilerConfigForLuci-235, but so far seldom use ROX-Filer [use Xfe], so no idea what these do or how to use them.

playdayz,

firewallstate-1.6-full now posted in the additional software/network section.

Not a software update , more a case of adding a missing folder to make firewall on/off work Embarassed

Note:
Closing firewallstate does not turn off the firewall.
