Hi i am wanting to know how to do this in puppy linux. there is not much i can find. please post what to do for all the different desktop environments adn windowmanagers such as JWM, KDe, Xfce, ICEWM etc that can be found in different versions of puppy linux.

Have a look at the files in "/usr/share/applications"
or "/usr/local/share/applications/"
For editing the structure have a look in "/etc/xdg/menus" and "/etc/xdg/templates"
Desktop Menu Specification
if you are using JWM or IceWM or maybe a few other window managers I have not fought of, the command to rebuild the menus is "fixmenus" then restart the window manager. In Desktop Environments like LXDE, XFCE, Gnome, KDE ,ect they refresh differently.
