10.9 is out and has some interesting features. By the way can I have a copy of your compile options please.

This has loads more puppy mods than the previous packages. To see info on what mods where done, look at the "Mods.txt" in the "Fotoxx-10.10.3-Source-ModifiedForPuppy.tar.xz" source archive.
Here is the list of improvements:
- Burn function now uses PBurn.
- Now uses your default Web Browser to show a local or remote html file.
- Traceback dump now opens in your default text viewer
- Removed the create a desktop icon / launcher with icon feature because it does not work in Puppy Linux.
For the Email function to work you need "xdg-email".

I think xdg-email can simply be replaced with defaultemail (or make a symlink to it) I use a symlink to rox for xdg-open instead of defaulthandler like Barry has in woof (but it does need a wrapper for http://, ftp:// and the like ... in case the link doesn't have an html type extension) ... Zenity and Yad use xdg-utils a lot and that was the workaround I came up with for them.

"defaultemail" only works if your default email program takes the "--attach" parameter.

Remember that no one needs to depend upon someone else's voluntary work to release .pet packages. The official fotoxx website releases new versions quite often, and there is always a .deb package that works fine on Lucid. That's what I use.
Another reason to dislike the forthcoming Slackware-based Puppy: Debian and Ubuntu packages are always easy to find. Slackware packages not so much.

Why won't you be able to use debs on slacko? I've been adding them to puppies from the 1xx series. (Albeit avoiding gnome dependencies & such like)

Problems with Fotoxx 11 and Pup4.3.1 |
|
Hello
I hope this thread is still active as Fotoxx looks just the job for a new digital camera owner.
I am trying to run Fotoxx 11.10 on a standard Puppy 4.3.1 frugal install and am having problems that I think might be related to Exiftools.
Fotoxx without Exiftools seems to run OK execpt for those functions that need Exiftools, when a Fotoxx warning that it's not installed appears as per the docs.
With it installed, Fotoxx crashes part way through indexing a mid size photo collection. It seems to fail after different amounts on each attempt but the last time the progress indicator had passed about 400 files. examining the directories after a crash, Fotoxx's ".thumbnails " directories have been created as for as it seems to get but the index text file is not created. I have tried specifying just one folder of about 25 pics to index and it works fine. I have attached a screenshot of the terminal output after one event in case it is of use.
I have also found I can crash Fotoxx while moving through subfolders and opening pics if I don't pause to allow the ".thumbnails" folder to be created at each level -- I guess this wouldn't be an issue if indexing had been completed fully. I have a screenshot of the output after this as well.
I have tried three different versions of Exiftools -- The latest 8.66, the one in a Zip file from the post of 18th Aug 2010 and one numbered 7.72 that I found lurking on my hard drive but results are the same as far as I can tell.
A final thought. Could the indexing problem be related to savefile space? -- I am testing Fotoxx on a frugal install with about 170MB free although the folders I am trying to index are outside the savefile.
Thanks very much for any constructive suggestions -- Fotoxx looks as though it will be a usefull programme anyway but it would be better if I could sort this out.
Will

Hello, Muggins,
Thanks for the great job you do, finding and facilitating great programs like this. I will understand if you don't have time for this request. There is a particular feature that came out in ver 12.04 that I'd love to have. (The new versions are coming out fast, and of course you wouldn't want to keep up with all of them. And it seems some of the later features, e.g tag geolocation, are not worth the trouble.)

Is it possible you might compile a .pet of, say, 12.04 (or later) with the user manual? I am only a user and that is probably beyond me.
I've been using fotoxx, currently your fotoxx-11.10-i486.pet, and printoxx for some years, and having got used to the innovative UI, am finally ready to drop Gimp and go to fotoxx for my photo editing production.

I have compiled 12.01.2 in debian squeeze based dpup exprimo. I believe this version is the last before fotoxx changed to use gtk-3.0, unfortunately.
Maybe my compile is useful for someone. I unfortunately try to create small pets....so no user manual included.
If the fotoxx does not launch from menu entry...launch it in console: fotoxx
and you should see if you are missing some libs.

@ pemasu
Thanks for that. It works perfectly in RacyNop-5.2.2

@muggins
I guess GTK-3 is a kernel thing, so that could be a problem with my 12.04 request?
